A "MESSI" SITUATION...

A spirited crowd gathered at the bar on a beautiful afternoon, not to check out the hot babes enjoying the great weather we had, mind you; but to watch a much-anticipated matchup between BARCELONA and ARSENAL in the quarterfinals of the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.

What was supposed to be a closely contested matchup became, much to the dismay of ARSENAL fans, the LIONEL MESSI show, much to the delight of BARCELONA fans in the bar.

MESSI, recently voted as UEFA's "Footballer of the Year" (their equivalent to MVP), put on a clinic against the highly-regarded English side, scoring not one, not two, not three.. but FOUR goals in dominating fashion, and single-handily bouncing ARSENAL out of the Champions League competition.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs BAYERN MUNICH on Wednesday, 2:30pm LIVE at the bar!

During this time, I got a text from MR. LOW-KEY who was on his way home from the hospital with his wife and one of his two newborns. So I took a quick stroll over to check out the new addition:

Mr. Low-Key, his lovely wife, Chris Ann and Henry!

His twin brother, DANIEL should be joining him shortly and thus will complete the full house: LOW-KEY, CHRIS ANN, the twin boys... and of course, RUBY! We wish you well in the next chapter of your lives!

HOCKEY NEWS: The NY Rangers shot themselves in the foot last night in their loss to Buffalo, 5-2. With their loss, coupled with Philadelphia's win and Montreal's shootout loss, the Blueshirts find themselves three points out of the last spot with three games to play, two against Philadelphia. First things first: They MUST secure at least one point against TORONTO here tonight. If they lose tonight, they are done. Toast. Thanks for stopping by. If they win... they live to see another day. So in essence, their playoffs begin tonight. We'll carry the game live at the bar. Will the Blueshirts "man up" and do what needs to be done? Stay tuned....

TONIGHT: Pub Trivia is back with a new season of fun-filled competition for great prizes and bragging rights! Free to play as always, registration begins at 7pm and the fun starts at 8pm! $4 Mixed Well Drinks (for ladies) and $15 buckets of Miller High Life, all night long! Check out Yankees/Red Sox as well as NY Rangers vs Toronto!

Brace yourselves, peeps: 86 DEGREES in NYC for Wednesday. This is surely "THE DAY"!!!!!!!

OPENING DAY IS FINALLY HERE!

Last night we saw the baseball season kick off with the biggest rivals of the sport facing each other: NY YANKEES vs BOSTON RED SOX. And of course, whenever those teams play each other, anything can happen. Last night's game was no exception, with the Yankees jumping out to a big lead, only to blow it to the Red Sox and losing the game. Let the fireworks begin!

The weekend was a pretty sedate affair overall; With the Easter weekend taking place, it left the neighborhood devoid of the regular pulse of a weekend vibe. Instead we found ourselves inundated with tourists most of the time. Saturday night was pretty busy, thanks in part to the Final Four matchups and a couple of birthday groups. That should change this week with the start of baseball, Champions League quarterfinals and a week of awesome weather! I believe The "Day" will happen this week!

The bar was closed in observance of Easter Sunday, which gave me a day to relax and get out of the neighborhood. We also had the return of the elephants as the Ringling Bros. circus ended their run at Madison Square Garden.

Join me as we celebrate MLB OPENING DAY featuring the NY Mets and the Florida Marlins, among a slew of games on tap this afternoon. $3 Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light and Brooklyn Pennant Ale '55 on tap and free hot dogs and pretzels (while they last!), 12-4pm!

After that, catch the NCAA Championship Game between Duke and Butler (9pm) and enjoy $1 mugs of Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light and $2 mugs, all other domestic drafts all night long!

AFTER-WORK THURSDAYS... ARE BACK!

Last night found the place to be teeming with plenty of new faces enjoying the beginning of the Easter Holiday weekend. With temps hovering around a very comfortable 68 degrees outside, it was the perfect time to throw open the windows and allow the springtime breeze to pass through the bar and let the sounds of the after-work crowd invite passersby in.

We got hit early on with a lively crowd of twenty-somethings meeting up for the happy hour specials. It was at this time that we got hit with our first taste of drama for the evening. It all started out when one of the females of the group started dancing the moment she walked in the door. While we're not a dance club of any sort, folks will sneak a little dancing in here and there (hey if the spirit moves you, the spirit moves you). She didn't have the smooth moves of a Grace Kelly, mind you; Her dance moves reminded me more of Urkel from Family Matters. Not so graceful. But hey, she seemed to be having a good time so who am I to hate?

But after a couple of songs, it became readily apparent that this girl was a bit more than tipsy; she kept dancing through each song, bumping and grinding on anyone that would come near her; She was even dancing to the dead air in between songs. At this point I began to think that maybe, just maybe, she was a bit more than tipsy. When she fell the first time, I attributed that to a slip. But when she fell the second time, enough was enough, it was time for doll baby to turn in her dance card. That's when the drama unfolded.

As my doorman and I went over to begin the escort out of the bar, two of her buddies, co-workers/whatever jumped in to her defense and demanded that she get to stay, trying to blame her fall on a "slippery bar stool". Really? These guys were two small musclebound Napoleon-types who clearly had chips on their shoulders. They began to have words with us, trying to bully us into allowing the girl to stay. Meanwhile, the girl was clearly "out of it" and was ready to be put into a cab. After a brief standoff, we finally got the idiots and the dancing queen out of the bar. Of course, one of the guys had to bring Obama into it (he's the blame for anything that goes wrong in society these days) and proclaimed his happiness for not being American ("I'm glad I'm not American, I'm from Israel!"); Not sure what either one of those things had anything to do with him being a jerk and getting tossed out.

The funny thing about that whole situation? About an hour later, one of the guys came back to the bar and apologized to us for his actions. He said that once they got outside, he realized that his dancing queen was indeed drunk and he put her in a cab. D'uh!

The rest of the night went pretty well; there were tons of new faces and more importantly, lot of HOT chicks! If the rest of the spring season looks like anything we had last night, I'm definitely looking forward to it. It was a pretty good night.

Today is GOOD FRIDAY and for many of you, while it marks the beginning of the long Easter weekend, let's not lose sight of what Good Friday is really about. Think about your family and friends and remember to give thanks for all that is good.

We're open tonight and Saturday and closed for Easter Sunday. Check our website for the happenings of the weekend!

PUB TRIVIA: A DUEL TO THE DEATH?

Last night turned out to be a strange one, more bizarre than what was expected for a Wednesday night during Passover.

The evening started innocent enough with an office party gathering after work. Nothing special. About thirty folks from one of the local banks getting together for drinks. The way it was scheduled, it was to run and end just around the time that Pub Trivia started. Someone forgot to give these guys the memo, however, as they ended up partying long past their "official end time". That ended up creating a bit of a ruckus during Trivia; at one point, the host of the office party even took over the mike and led the crowd to a very bad version of "The Gambler". It was that kind of a night.

To add to the chaos of that, was Pub Trivia itself. Between the high-spirited competitiveness of the event itself and the drunken folks from the office party trying to chime in at every opportunity, it became an all-out shitshow. We had teams ready to go at each other's throats (one girl actually stormed out of the bar in tears at one point), over the course of the event and I found myself mystified at how hardcore these teams get over something like Pub Trivia. Bizarre indeed. I don't recall ever seeing girls ready to go to blows over Trivia before...

You can check out the rest of the photos from this long, strange night on our FACEBOOK page!

THIRSTY THURSDAYS rule the night, featuring $4 domestic drafts (5-10pm)! Speaking of which, we bring in a couple of new brews to the rotation:

BROOKLYN PENNANT ALE '55
MAGIC HAT # 9
LEFFE BLOND

Make sure you check them out the next time you order!
