BIG MLB WEEKEND in NYC!

This is a big weekend for the local baseball teams as both the NY Yankees and NY Mets face off against their rivals in pivotal games. The Yankees kick off a four-game homestand against the Boston Red Sox while the NY Mets travel to Philadelphia to meet the hated Phillies in another make-or-break series.

In the case of the Yankees, they are in a dogfight for first place with the Tampa Bay Rays, with the Red Sox right behind both teams. A series win by the Red Sox will go a long way towards bringing them back to the front of the pack. The Yankees must hold off their rivals while at the same time, do some scoreboard watching to keep tabs on the Rays who are one game behind for first place.

In the case of the NY Mets, they are holding on slim hopes of getting back into the playoff race and a series win over their dreaded rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies would help kickstart their goal towards doing just that. The Phillies have been dealing with a lot of injuries of late so this would be the perfect time to pick them off. Which Met team will show up this weekend? Stay tuned...

TONIGHT: Join us for a Sam Adams Yankees/Red Sox Viewing party where we will be raffling off a genuine BBQ Smoker Grill! Fun starts at 6:30pm and the game starts at 7pm! $4 Domestic Drafts and Mixed Well Drinks (5-9pm)!

CHECK OUT THE NEW SITE!

The Third and Long Website got a facelift! To commemorate the 2nd year anniversary of the bar's website, we gave the site a facelift. Check it out and tell us what you think! And if you were at the bar for our Pub Trivia night, or online and caught our post on Facebook and/or Twitter, you could have had a chance to win tickets to a NY Yankees game, simply by looking over our website!

In any case, we congratulate STAN R. on finding the "secret code" first and winning the tickets. Keep checking back with us on the blog, website, Facebook and Twitter as we will continue to surprise you with great giveaways!

As for Pub Trivia, we had an interesting crowd for a steamy night of fun (Steamy as in hot and muggy outside, by the way). The thing that stood out for me last night were the preppy morons who got the boot from the bar for trying to do lines in the men's room. While it was somewhat strange enough to see preppy frat boys trying to do lines (though in reality I shouldn't be surprised at anything); what was more bizarre was what took place about an hour later.

One of the guys CAME BACK to the bar (after getting tossed earlier) because he realized that he left his credit card at the bar. So we let him back in to close out his tab. After what felt like ages in waiting for him to sign his tab, he takes a while to get his credit card back into his wallet. Finally he gets up and staggers out the door and up the block. Good riddance.

A few minutes later, I walk over to where he was sitting and notice a small pool of blood on the floor. WTF! We look around some more and notice a trail of blood leading out of the bar and up 3rd Avenue and sure enough, it led to the moron who had just signed out his check. Not sure how he cut himself; probably sliced his finger on his coke blade while digging in his wallet I bet.

You can't make this stuff up.

GOTTA LOVE THE TOURISTS...

On Sunday night, I got to meet a group of girls who were in town for the week on business. They happened to stop in while feeling their way around the neighborhood and ended up staying for the duration of the night. The group, in town from Arkansas, were also celebrating the birthday of one of their own and ended up entertaining the whole bar with their cutesy "Southern belle" attitude. At the end of the night they mentioned that they were in town for the week and will make a point of coming by every night during their stay.

Well I can say that they are two for two on follow-up visits so far, stopping by on Monday as well as Tuesday night. It's safe to say that these girls are making their presence felt at Third and Long, that's for sure! That's the thing when it comes to tourists: You never quite know what you're going to get from one night to the next. Whether it be brooding, non-tipping Brits or carefree, fun-loving Southern belles, you can't help but to love them. They certainly help to make your night interesting!

The rest of the night was filled with the usual suspects: young professionals and interns blowing off steam and having a good time. The place was loud and boisterous, what one would expect on a typical DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS night. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

TONIGHT: We're getting ready for what should be another busy night with the weekly PUB TRIVIA event sponsored by KOPPARBERG CIDER. As always, it's free to play and there's great prizes to be won! Fun starts at 8pm so gather up the posse and make your way down for a night of competitive fun! Mystery theme tonight so get your "A" game ready!

Before I go, here's a little something to keep your mind off of the prickly heatwave we're dealing with today...

BOUNCEBACK MONDAY

Last night we experienced a nice bounceback from a laid-back weekend with a "British Invasion" of sorts. With $1 mugs being the main event of the evening, British expats dominated the scenery to take advantage of the special. I guess if you're going to get a bang for your Euro, this is the place to do it. I wonder what tonight will bring (Dollar Draft Madness). I met a group of southern belles on Sunday night who swore to me that they would be back for dollar drafts. They were quirky and cute and should make for some fine entertainment tonight.

As I mentioned previously, we have a few things of note taking place this week, including a Magner's Cider promo (Thurs), a NY Yankees/Boston Red Sox Sam Adams Viewing Party (Fri, where we'll be raffling off a BBQ Grill) and a huge UFC 117 Viewing Party (Sat.). That's in addition to our regular lineup of weekly activities including "Dollar Draft Madness" and "Kopparberg Cider Pub Trivia". Should be a good time!

For all of you fanatics out there, American Idol tryouts are currently taking place in N.J. (Izod Center). If you think you have what it takes to make it big, get your ass over there now!

WEEKEND RECAP

The past weekend was highlighted by beautiful weather and a fun party on Saturday night. Some of the bartenders put together a "Soul Train Seventies Party" where the focus was great music, fashion and drinks from "Back in the Day". They even had old episodes of "Soul Train" playing on the TV's (I of course, enjoyed watching that). I have to admit, I was pretty impressed with what they came up with and folks who stopped by the bar not knowing what was going on really enjoyed themselves.

Check out the rest of the pics on our FACEBOOK page! While you're there, become a fan of THIRD and LONG!

NFL Training Camps open this week and that excites me as it means that we're about a month away from NFL football and more importantly, BREW CREW SUNDAYS! This is without a doubt the best time of the year at the bar as old friends reunite and new friendships are created, all over the shared love of football. Keep checking back here as we begin the countdown to BREW CREW SUNDAYS at Third and Long. If you haven't experienced it yet, make it a point to check it out.

MAKE YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT RESERVATIONS NOW! We're taking reservations for your league's fantasy football draft! Drink specials and free wi-fi available for your league to make your draft a success! Email us (thirdandlongnyc@gmail.com) or call (212). 447-5711 for details or to make reservations!

Before I check out for the night, I want to congratulate T-BILL and his lovely wife on the birth of their first newborn, MATHIS ALEXANDER! Both mom and son are doing well and everyone's very happy for the family!

That's It for now. More posts to come...
