One month down, 11 more to go.....
until 2006. You know it's a long dreary winter when you are already counting down the days to next year.... Well, we have the Super Bowl coming up this weekend. The Super Bowl is always a fun time at Third & Long. This year, we have the New England Patriots (defending champs) vs the Philadelphia Eagles (this year's victim). All of a sudden you see Eagle fans coming out of the woodwork and it makes me want to gag. Last year, we went through the same thing with an abundance of Carolina Panther fans (where are they now?), and now it's a sea of puke green jerseys floating about Murray Hill. I have to say that a secret part of me wouldn't mind seeing the Eagles win one, if for no other reason than to see that city stay intact. If (or should I say when) they lose this weekend, you can expect their "friendly" fans to dismantle that city like a brat taking to a Leggo set. But the reality of the situation will get the better of me in this case and force me to acknowledge the fact that New England will crush the Eagles like Flavor Flav crushing grapes in an Italian winery (see "Strange Love on VH1).....
Aside from the Super Bowl, we have our Annual Mardi Gras party coming up next Tuesday. Now I don't know if I'm seeing things, but Mardi Gras seems to have come a bit early this year. In any case, Mardi Gras at Third & Long is usually a pretty wild time. There's something to be said about the combination of beads, breasts, dollar drafts and Hurricane shots. Talk about a lethal combination! Now I'm not one to turn down a pair of frontal fun bags, but I never quite understood the facination of cheap beads....to the point where one would whip out their boobies for them....I must have missed school that day. Oh well, this year's bash should be just as fun.....
QUERY OF THE MOMENT: Anyone happen to know what's up with the corner spot on East 34th/3rd Avenue (where the old Ha'agen Da'as used to be)? Rumor has it that there is a luncheonette going in (like we need another food spot on that block); however, I can't confirm it (yet). I wouldn't mind seeing a nice cool coffee bar/lounge in that spot or nearby (think Cafe Neurosa on "Frasier" or DTUT); a place where you can chill out w/friends, work on the internet, study, etc....*sigh*
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: For all of you ladies in the Murray Hill area, mind your purses when you are going out these days. Word has it there's a pickpocket on the loose. He's been targeting purses left on tables/barchairs at neighborhood bars. He's been described as tall, Caucasian, usually wearing a brown jacket w/a Burberry scarf. If you spot this gentleman, let your security or bar manager know. There's nothing worse than having your wallet or purse nicked. It's a pain in the ass to replace everything, plus you end up feeling violated. Bottom line-it sucks.
That's it. I'm done. Mind yourselves. Dollar drafts tonite...woo-hah!
Nuff said.
