It's Wednesday, and as promised, I'm going to play Mr. Rogers and take you on a stroll through the neighborhood and introduce you to various individuals that make the neighborhood unique.
In this segment, I'd like you to meet Musheer of Excel News. He and his roommate Hameed (not pictured) run this 24-hour bodega, located across the street from Third and Long. Musheer and Hameed are really nice guys who always look as if they are having fun at their job. We are always bantering back and forth with each other and everyone usually gets a good laugh out of it (usually at my expense).
At Excel News, you can find everything from cigarettes, non-alcoholic beverages, condoms, candy, magazines and newspapers from all over the world, and best of all: internet access (this was big for me when I didn't have internet in mi casa). So if you are ever in the neighborhood (3rd Avenue between East 34/35th Streets), stop by Excel News and say hello to the boys!
Last night was actually a pretty good night at the bar; We had a pretty good turnout for dollar drafts and of course, the big news of the night: Madame X hooked up again!
(yes, I know I said I wouldn't mention her again, but like I said before, she makes it so hard not to!). This time, the lucky guy was about 45 years old. He was offended that I didn't card him at the door (whatever, get over it). He arrived at the bar first and took a seat at the bar. As he hung out at the bar, obviously looking out of place (the average age last night was probably 22), Madame X strolled in, looking dapper in her new skirt and top (bless her heart) and promptly sat down at the only seat left at the bar-which happend to be next to him. He immediately struck up a conversation with her, and within fifteen minutes they were making out at the bar. Ten minutes later, they were out the door and walking down 3rd avenue, hand in hand, off into the sunset (she apparently has a thing for the hand-in-hand stroll off into the sunset thing)....giddy up!
Other highlights: Some drunk kid lost his coat (or someone took it by accident); No big deal except that in this case, the kid left his apartment keys and ipod in the jacket. He flipped out when his friends said "relax, it's no big deal".... I probably would've flipped out too. Let's see, what else....there were a lot of nice eye candy last night, which is always nice. We also had our share of Brits again-it seems that we have been getting a lot of people from England of late; and I couldn't figure out why until I went to Yahoo! UK/Ireland website and typed in Third and Long and we popped up as a destination to hit when in NYC. Guess that explains it.
Tonight we have a Pabst Blue Ribbon Promo and a live band (Donovan & Carrion). Pretty good acoustic cover band and of course- no cover charge (which is always nice)! Should be a good night. Festivities start at around 7ish.
That's it for me. I'm out.

ooh...i love the mr. rogers virtual tour. i'm thinking this definitely needs to be a regular segment here.
i'm also thinking you shouldn't stop writing of the adventures of madame x...the ongoing saga is just too interesting to forgo.
i was actually on the fringes of your hood last night (23rd and 3rd). i noticed a heavy brit presence at the bar i was at too, and actually on the street around that area. hmmm. odd. it also seemed quite testosterony, but maybe that's just me.
