A NEW BEGINNING (redux).....

Yesterday I was brimming with excitement over the fact that we finally brought in a new porter. "Abu" (not his real name, of course) was going to be the savior of Third and Long; the person that would allow us to move on from our mourning of the Rockstar Porter (who is currently on a world tour). He was an eager employee; asked pertinent questions, full of energy, and best of all, spoke English. This was the hire of the year-the person to right the ship and get us up and running for the upcoming busy Spring season.

Today, the "Abu" experiment is over. Less than 24 hours after it began, it ended. I was waiting, teeming with excitement because we had a full day of chores and deliveries to handle and it was the perfect opportunity to show Abu the ropes. He said he'd be here at 9:30am. 9:30 came....then 9:45....by 10am I had my face pressed up against the glass like the little fat kid in the bakery store window.... and no sign of "Abu". Finally, at around 10:30am, another guy knocks at the door. Apparently a friend of "Abu", this guy brings me a message from "Abu" indicating that "Abu" can't work because he is sick and that HE needed a job and would work in his stead. "Are you kiddin' me?????????" I found myself mumbling under my breath. In effect, "Abu" sent a courier to basically say that he didn't want to work! WTF? So at that point, I declined the courier's offer and closed the door and let out a primal scream that probably woke up anyone who hadn't gotten up for work yet. So with the help of my day bartender (Jeff Gordon, Jr.), we once again handled the setting up of the bar for the day, while yours truly dealt with all of the deliveries for the day, including about ten rather heavy full kegs of beer.... I gotta tell ya, I ain't built for that kind of work anymore. You can't make this stuff up; As they say-"only in New York".

It's back to square one. And with that, we are in DAY 5 of the Rockstar Porter World Tour. Today we find our Rockstar Porter still turning his wheels in the Keystone State, Pennsylvania. This time, he was spotted at the outlet malls of the great shopping mecca, King of Prussia, PA. Rumor has it he was trying to trade a few of his chickens for some Timberland boots at the outlet store, without much success. There was also talk of an impromptu musical performance in the parking lot; however, it was cut short by mall security because he was blocking a driveway. Security issued him a $25 summons and shooed him on his way. More details to follow.

HAPPY HOUR TONITE:
It's Thursday night and that means $3 Coronas, Margaritas, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Sangria from 5pm-9pm. Join us!

Look out for this week's installment of "Meet the Neighbors" in tomorrow's update! Keep the feedback coming!

I think Abu considered himself overqualified for the job. You should have let his little messenger clean up, and then send him on his way back to Abu with a message from you. I hope you find good help soon.

You know, looking back on it, that would've been a pretty good idea...except with my mindset being what it was, the courier would have gotten back to Abu with a size 10 up his arse.

that would have been the appropriate message!

i'm so sorry you're in porter hell...how frustrating. i'm so glad the rockstar porter seems to be having such success on his world tour though.

i do hope you findsomeone reliable soon - from your luck, i'm beginning to wonder if that exists at all.
