"Hump Day Blues"...
It's Wednesday, better known as "Hump Day" (aka the halfway point, middle of the week, etc.). At this moment I am stuck in the middle of feeling the blahs of yet another cold day and excitement at the fact that the weekend is fast approaching. It's a struggle to get through "Hump Day", but I am going to fight through it. I was speaking w/a couple of members of the Peanut Gallery today during lunch and our discussion turned towards my favorite patron, Madame X. We are still trying to piece together her deal and what she does for a living; In any case, one of the members of the Gallery (I'll dub him Levin Kongsleet) was actually trying to convince us that she was attractive. I was tempted to snatch his drink away and send him off to rehab on the spot! I'm hoping that he was just joking. Call me crazy, but I can't seem to get her fetish for nose-picking out of my head to consider her attractive in any way.
So what's new? Well, for starters, the Big East Tournament started today. That means for the next few days we will be invaded by fanatical fans of all of the teams playing at the Garden. For example, last night we started out rather slowly (due in part to the flash storm we got earlier in the day); all of a sudden at around 9:30 we get hit with a rush of people, all from West Virginia. It turns out they were West Virginia alums gathering for the tournament. They were lively and boisterous; singing country tunes and chanting fight songs for their beloved Mountaineers. Later in the evening we also had groups of people representing Boston College and Pitt as well. I really like this time of year because as a sports fan, the Big East Tournament leads into March Madness (NCAA Tournament), which in turn, signals the beginning of spring.
We have a live peformance tonight; can't quite remember the name of the performer off the top of my head (no doubt due to the Hump Day Blues), but he will be playing an acoustic set tonight from 8pm-midnight. From what I hear, he's pretty good. We'll see for sure tonight. We are also changing up the drink specials for Wednesdays. We are now offering $3.00 PBR's, Heineken and Amstel Lights from 5pm - close. I've also been approached by a couple of nurses asking when we were going to bring back Nurses' Night. So I will be working on that as well. Nothing more attractive than a bar full of buzzed nurses.
I got a phone message from a familiar voice yesterday. It seems that our Rockstar Porter left a message looking to speak to me. It appears that the prodigal one is looking to arrange a "meeting". Or I think that's what he meant. Word has it there was a lot of loud music and the faint sounds of waves crashing in the background. Methinks he's still out on the water, whereabouts, unknown. Stay tuned.
Here's a quick contest. Tomorrow (and tomorrow only) night, bring in a printout of TODAY'S blog entry between the hours of 7pm and 11pm and you will receive a FREE DRINK with the purchase of a drink (of equal or lesser value). Why? Why not? Stop asking so many questions!
Last night, I found myself in a debate with a couple of customers (one male/one female) and the topic was the exchanging of phone numbers. Say you are in a bar and you strike up a conversation with a guy/girl. Conversation goes well and there is a vibe between the two. The question was: "Do you give your phone number to the guy or do you take his number instead?" I never knew such a simple question would strike up such a debate.... I personally said that I would give my number to the woman, that way if she's really interested, then she would call, if not, no pressure/no sweat.. What do you think?
Last week I mentioned that I would interview one of my neighbors; I haven't forgotten about it, it'll happen. Trust me. I also got an offer to go to the Big East Tournament tonite but I haven't decided if I will go yet. I have a lot of things to catch up on (this blog being one), so I don't feel right leaving things undone simply to engage in a couple of hours of actual fun. Call me strange.
Stop by this week and look me up. Hopefully your "Hump Day" will turn out better than mine!
