SERENDIPITY....

ser·en·dip·i·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (srn-dp-t)
n. pl.

1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
2. The fact or occurrence of such discoveries.
3. An instance of making such a discovery.

I bring up this word because it reminds me of a humorous moment that took place at the bar last night. Before I get into details of said funny moment, let me recap the evening for you:

The happy hour was a tremendous improvement over last Thursday; There were the boys from W.B. MASON there for their usual after-work get-together. They are also good friends with THE ITALIAN STALLION and FDNY CALENDAR BOY, the bartenders for the evening. Whenever these guys get together, you can pretty much be assured that the bar will be lively, and last night was no exception as they were drinkin' hard, chantin' loud and being their usual jovial selves.

There was also a rather large contingent of nurses and other females in attendance. The nurses were there to see THE STALLION(he had a pretty large contingent of groupies in force last night); the other females were simply there to chill and enjoy the scene. Most of the ladies in attendance were pretty nice looking and friendly, not afraid to hold conversations with various guys in the bar. If you were a guy with any hint of confidence, your chances of hooking up with a young lady was pretty promising.

The CUSACK BOYS made an appearance and ended up hanging out for much of the evening. In between bottles of Miller Lite, we'd shoot the breeze over various things such as sports, girls, day-to-day things, girls, a smattering of politics, girls, and of course, girls. One of the things that makes me laugh when I am around these guys is the fact that women swear that they look like JOHN CUSACK. Case in point: The CUSACK BOYS were sitting at a table, chilling out over their beers. A cute petite blonde comes up to one of the guys and blurted out: "HEY, WEREN'T YOU IN SERENDIPITY?" CUSACK #1 gave her a deadpan expression while the other one laughed; I found myself laughing as well as I'm sure they get this question all the time. Another girl was totally convinced that JOHN CUSACK was at the bar and refused to believe otherwise. Now i'm sure if these guys wanted to, they could milk the CUSACK angle for whatever its worth, but they don't strike me as the type that would do such a thing. And besides, they do pretty well with the ladies on their own, without having to result to pulling such a facade. Still, it's funny to see the reactions. (click here to take the JOHN CUSACK TEST)

There were a large number of disappointed guys who seemed genuinely bummed that SEXY BLONDE wasn't working last night. You'd see a guy walk in, take a look at who was behind the bar; when they didn't see their regular bartender, off they went into the darkness.. Interesting observation.

Strangest sighting of the night:
Watching the group of chunky females, sporting the belly shirts, doing a dirty dance in the middle of the floor.
Strangest sighting of the night, pt.2: One of the chunky chicks practically dry-humping some poor soul against the wall...
Strangest sighting of the night, pt. 3:My little Indy-Brit friend walking into the bar with an outfit that would have made SUPERFLY proud; big black pimp hat, fake bling hanging off of his neck.. What a sight..
Strangest sighting of the night, pt. 4:The MAYOR OF MURRAY HILL and his brother, NIGHTSTALKER....nuff said on that...

NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and UCONN FAN made a rare weeknight appearance; UCONN FAN and his boys were there to watch the game. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, stopping by after a work function. We ended up having a conversation about the holiday break- it turns out that my CLEVELAND BROWNS are playing his PITTSBURGH STEELERS in Cleveland that weekend, so we are trying to see if we can secure tickets for the big game. Should be fun.

CELEBRITY (for lack of a better term) sighting of the night: CARSON KRESSLEY of QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY was seen strolling down 3rd Avenue and into the apartment across the street with no doubt a boy-toy, munching on candy from the local candy store. You see it all in this neighborhood...

All told, it was a very good night. Now they are predicting that we are supposed to get 6" of snow. I, for one, don't believe it will be that much. However, only time will tell.

If you are brave enough to come out from the "snow", stop by the bar tonite for some pretty cool drink specials. $3 DOMESTIC DRAFTS & $5 APPLETINIS, COSMOS AND MARGARITAS from 5pm-9pm. So step out from the boring indoors and stop by for a pint.

Oh and by the way...at the time of this posting, it is snowing like a MOTHERF*****!
