A SPECIAL CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Over the past couple of weeks, we've chronicled the progress of MATT LONG (featured in center of photo) after his tragic bike accident on December 22nd (He was riding his bike to work at the FDNY Fire Academy during the transit strike and was hit by a charter bus).
Since the accident, he has gone through numerous bouts of surgery and went through a lot of blood. He is still currently in critical condition, however, more recently, he had a pretty good week of surgery/recovery. As a result, the doctors and the family are feeling more and more optimistic about his recovery with each passing day. Much of the success is due to the fight and will of MATT himself; A lot of it also has to do with the support and prayers for him and his family, from friends and strangers, who reached out to him during the initial moments after the accident. And for that, the family is forever grateful.
As I mentioned before, MATT went through a lot of blood. Luckily for him, there was enough available blood to help him during his time of need. However, at this time of year is when the blood banks experience their lowest totals of available blood. So we are calling on our dear friends to assist us once again by donating blood. THIRD and LONG and TURTLE BAY GRILL and LOUNGE is getting together to sponsor a BLOOD DRIVE this SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 2006, from 12pm -5:30pm. There will be BLOODMOBILE stations set up at both locations during those hours, ready to take in donations.
*IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BY CALLING or STOPPING BY THIRD AND LONG (212).447.5711, OR TURTLE BAY GRILL AND LOUNGE (212).223.4224. Ask for what time slots are available and sign up accordingly. Also check out the NEW YORK BLOOD CENTER for details on whether or not you qualify to give blood.
If you haven't given blood yet, here's your chance to do so now; Your donation in his name will allow the NY BLOOD CENTER to help others in need, just as it did for him.
Regular updates return tomorrow.
