100 DAYS AND COUNTING...
Spring is in the air and all of the signs of the season are now in full view: Flowers are starting to bloom, people are taking long leisurely walks during their lunch breaks, restaurants are setting tables out onto the sidewalks; Everyone is basking in what is possibly the best time of the year to be in New York.
While we take in the beauty of the season, it's easy to forget our problems or the problems that others may be going through. I was reminded of that today as I read a letter posted in today's New York Post by EILEEN LONG, the mother of our dear friend, MATT. In her letter, she recounts the tragic accident of December 22, 2005, when our friend was forced to ride his bike to work due to the Transit Workers' Strike, and how he was hit and run over by a chartered bus. She also describes in great detail about the injuries sustained and what he has had to endure. Mrs. Long has also called out to lawmakers again and again to uphold the law written to protect the public from illegal strikes (the Taylor Law). The thing that stood out for me about the heart-wrenching plea from Mama Long (as I affectionately call her) is the fact that it will be 100 days since the accident this weekend. 100 DAYS! And MATT is still in the hospital, fighting the good fight to recover and to walk again, while at the same time, nothing has been done to those individuals who called for the illegal strike in the first place.
I know that the outpouring of support from friends and strangers alike has been a godsend to the family and for that they will be eternally grateful. I just ask that as we enjoy the wonderful season that is Spring, take a moment to send prayers and good karma to our friend MATT, who no doubt would have loved to be out and about, training for the next triathalon, but is instead, fighting the good fight to recover from his injuries sustained from that tragic accident, 100 days ago.

If you are a female who love firemen, last night would have been nirvana for you as we were filled to the gills with wall-to-wall firemen. A group of them were out celebrating the retirement of one of their own and they were a pretty fun bunch. The women who were there were in their glory as they got the pick of the litter of NY's Bravest. A pretty busy night overall and a good time had by all.
Best part of the night? The end of the night when MS. KREMLIN tried to get a drink after last call. She went to the bartenders and asked for a drink and when they told her that we were done serving, she tried to drop my name (as she always does) with the hopes of getting a drink. My bartenders know the drill by now and they stood firm with the denial. She of course, tried to go over their heads by coming to me and I turned her down flat. She gave me a pout and stormed out of the bar. We all looked at each other and smiled. If I wasn't so tired, I would have given them a hi-five.
