CHILLED-OUT SUNDAY....
Yesterday was one of those days where you wanted to simply relax and chill out. The weather was picture perfect; Folks were out and about in a multitude of colors, shapes and sizes, definately a sight to see. And while it seemed as if most of New York City was taking a leisurely stroll down 3rd Avenue, yours truly found himself inside of the bar, having his own "chilled-out" day... indoors.
Now the thought of being cooped up inside on such a beautiful day would have depressed most people. However, for yours truly, I actually found it relaxing in its own way. I didn't find myself alone watching paint dry, mind you; I actually had a small, yet steady stream of patrons throughout the day. As a matter of fact, I don't think I ever found myself alone the whole day. The interesting part was that most of the people who stopped by yesterday were people I'd never met before. Pretty interesting if you are into the observational thing. As I said before, the day was not without some highlights. For example:
There was the guy from Glasgow, Scotland. A pretty friendly guy who was here visiting on a brief vacation with his wife. She was out shopping so he happened to pop in for a beer to kill time. We ended up having a pretty lively conversation about the differences in the way society views sports and its athletes here and in Europe. We also compared differences between the women here and in Europe; As a matter of fact, I saw this woman coming across the street and mentioned she had a nice rack- turned out to be his wife. Yes, I suddenly had a case of the foot-in-mouth disease. At least he found it funny.
We also had a group from Buffalo, NY who happened to be walking by when they came upon the bar's blackboard of specials and decided that this was the place to hang out. They ended up staying for about five hours. Pretty nice and lively crew.
What was up with all of the velour sweatsuits? It seemed almost every woman and half of the guys were sporting some type of mafia-looking soft velour sweatsuit, every color of the rainbow being covered. Strange indeed.
NAPOLEON and SMURFETTE stopped by after spending a romantic afternoon in Central Park. They were joined soon after by AMERICAN PSYCHO who eventually convinced them to blow off a movie and hang out at the bar. We ended up ordering Thai food (or they did anyways- I ain't touchin that shit), playing scratch-offs and sharing stories. SMURFETTE's magic touch helped us win a cool c-note on a couple of scratchies, and her stories literally had me in tears they were so funny.
One of my former students stopped by after finishing off a trade-show at JACOB JAVITS Center. We shot the breeze for a bit while he shared stories of some of the client parties he attended during the weekend. Lucky bastard....
Finally, the night wouldn't have been complete without a visit from the CUSACK BOYS, who made their usual late Sunday nite visit. I have to say, while it wasn't the busiest of days, it certainly wasn't the worst.
MONDAY: a busy day is in store as it is baseball's OPENING DAY! Mets Home Opener at 1pm and we will carry all the action, as well as other Opening Day baseball games. Another sign of spring! $3 Bud/Bud Light & Coors Light all afternoon!
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP PARTY TONITE! It's down to the Final Two! UCLA vs FLORIDA for all the marbles! Third and Long has plenty of giveaways and drink specials to carry you through the night until we crown a champion! All of the festivities begin at 7pm! Get there early if you want a good seat for all the action!
I'm feeling a bit under the weather so I am off. Hope to see everyone soon! Take care.....
nothin' worse then coming down with something on such a nice day.....
