PROMO-SCHLOMO

We were scheduled for a couple of promotions last night, neither of which went as well as the promoter wanted, regardless of our input. The first promo involved HEINIEKEN LIGHT, a rather lovely tasting brew, if I do say so myself. The promo team were there to promote the beer as well as the upcoming AMSTERJAM concert at Randal's Island this weekend (featuring TOM PETTY and the HEARTBREAKERS, FOO FIGHTERS, L.L. COOL J., BUSTA RHYMES, just to name a few of the headlining acts). I suggested to the promoter to start their promotion later in the evening, but they insisted on holding it at 6pm, which on a sunny Thursday evening after work - is almost pointless because everyone is still holding court at bars with outside decks or rooftops. It's been the theme the last few weeks and my gut feeling was that it was going to be much of the same last night.

Lo and behold, 6pm came and there were only a handful of patrons in the bar. I kinda felt bad for the promoter, but then again, I told her what would likely happen if they stuck to their original time slot.

Later in the evening, we had another promo, this time with Coors Light and this promotion was much more successful, simply because it started later (9pm) and we had a lot more patrons in the bar by then, many of them coming from outdoor destinations such as Rio Grande and Tonic. Their promo had something to do with guessing songs played from an IPOD and doing taste tests and such. Pretty interactive. Lots of cheezy t-shirts and bottle openers that always break. At least they had patrons to do the hard-sell with.


The ITALIAN STALLION got to work with the new girl, F.I.T. PIXIE CHICK and they seemed to click well together. She's a hard worker and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, which is refreshing to see. They were even hard at work, trying to master dance steps. They meshed pretty good for two people who'd only met tonight.

The highlights of the evening came at the end of the night when a rather drunk and irate female customer tried to bite off ITALIAN STALLION's ear when he cut her off due to her drunken state She actually stood on her chair and tried to berate him when he refused to serve her. Her boyfriend looked on like a cuckholded sap, doing nothing to help to alleviate the situation. Eventually she got up and stormed out of the bar, leaving ITALIAN STALLION, fuming and biting his tongue. If anyone needed and deserved a swift kick in the arse for coming out of their face, then it was her.


At the end of the night, we got a visit from one of our old-school gang/employees, CY, and his high school classmates. They spent the evening bouncing around town and catching up with each other's lives before stopping at the bar for "old time's sake". Needless to say, they were all feeling pretty good. It was really good to see them as i've known most of these guys for almost ten years at least. Great guys.

Overall, while it wasn't the best night of the week, it was a fun night nevertheless. No complaints here.
