BARTENDER OF THE MONTH and other RANDOM SIGHTINGS...

Sorry for the late post; I had a lot of running around to do today and am just getting to the laptop now. Last night was an unusually slow night on 3rd Avenue for reasons unknown. But during the downtime I did happen to come across some familiar faces and got to interview our BARTENDER OF THE MONTH for September.

We got a surprise appearance from THE GOOD SAMARITAN, who's been M.I.A. ever since moving out to Long Island. He brought me up to speed on what's going on in life these days, which includes doing some freelance law work, lots of golf, and the occasional (and I use that term loosely) game of poker.

After what seemed like forever, the bar finally got busy and we could get to the business of making drinks. AMERICAN PSYCHO guest bartended last night and after getting a "dressing down" from SILENT BOB for pouring a bad beer, A.P. finally got up to speed and was pretty good the rest of the night. There were stages of the evening where we had a nice 50/50 mix of ladies and gents, and then there were certain points of the night where you'd thought you'd walked into a Teamsters union meeting. Hey, I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Finally, there's our BARTENDER OF THE MONTH, THE ITALIAN STALLION. A firefighter for the FDNY, the ITALIAN STALLION has been with us for about two years. During that time, he's demonstrated himself to be one of the most reliable and nicest guys we've ever had behind the stick.

When he isn't protecting the city from the dangers of fires and such, he can be found taking part in knitting circles, feeding the homeless and partaking in the occasional scrabble tournament. He has been known to attend a slumber party or two in his day.

In all seriousness, THE ITALIAN STALLION is very active in volunteering efforts when he isn't working at the firehouse or at the bar; An example of that would be the recent Tunnel to the Towers run last week. He helped to coordinate the race, which attracted almost 15,000 runners in support of a firefighter who gave his life at 9/11. Job well done! And ladies, HE'S SINGLE!

WEEKEND ACTIVITIES:

FRIDAY: $4.00 All Beers, Mixed Well Drinks and House Wines (4pm-8pm)

SATURDAY: "Kick the Keg" Saturday ($2.00 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP) 12-8pm

SUNDAY: "FAN-tasy Football Sundays" sponsored by COORS LIGHT, $3.00 Coors Light drafts and $4.00 Domestic Drafts ALL DAY!

AND FINALLY.....

CONGRATS to MR. TANQUERAY and MRS. T. on the birth of their baby daughter, EMILY MARY! I know that the two were sweating out their first pregnancy but I am glad to see that it worked out and they are now the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl!

AND HAPPY TRAILS.... to ESPN Mobile, which was shut down unceremoniously yesterday after a failed foray into the Mobile phone business. While their plans were adventurous, it turns out that middle America simply wasn't ready for sports 24/7 via telephone, something that they could get from their own phone service (when needed). Unfortunately, it really sucks for those individuals getting the surprise pink slips when they arrived for work yesterday.

ESPN Mobile was too freaking expensive, $70 for 100 minutes a month? Yes, please stick that broom handle up my ass.
