Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

IT JUST AIN'T IN THE CARDS....
Game 7 was one for the ages as the METS and CARDINALS played an epic game that literally came down to the last inning. The bar was filled to capacity as fans of both teams (dominated by MET fans, of course) were riveted to their seats, drinks clutched tightly in hand, hanging on each and every pitch. Everyone "ooohed" and "aaahhhed" after every hit or great play (most notably ENDY CHAVEZ's spectacular home-run saving catch in the 6th inning).
The game itself was nip and tuck all the way, score tied 1-1 until the top of the 9th when the catcher of the CARDS jacked up an improbable home run to take the lead 3-1. Bottom of the ninth: you could feel the tension in the room; thick enough to cut with a knife. At this point I realized that I didn't have my camera on me; the faces on everyone staring at the TV's would have been great as words couldn't describe the emotions everyone was experiencing. The METS tried to stage a comeback by loading up the bases, but ultimately could not get the job done. METS lose, 3-1, breaking the hearts of all MET fans young and old in the process.
The loss by the METS had a few ramifications: One, the spirit of the city, aching for another championship was dashed. For a city used to having championships come from the Bronx, to see their counterparts from Queens win a World Series and to finally climb out from under the shadow of the YANKEES would have been a big boost for MET fans. Second (and more close to home), is the financial hit that bars and restaurants such as ours would take by not having a New York team in the World Series. With all due respect to the TIGERS and CARDINALS, the bars won't be as busy with patrons clamoring to see those two teams as opposed to the TIGERS and the METS. That's just common sense. We take a huge hit financially because of it and I'm sure that bar owners and bartenders across the city are grumbling to themselves over that lost prospect. But hey, shit happens.
It was a great series and the METS have nothing to be ashamed of. They did themselves and their fans proud this season. Now it's time to look forward to next season and build upon the success of this season. In the meantime, the focus shift to the winter sports: Football, hockey, basketball (pro and college) and of course, partying! HALLOWEEN is quickly approaching and that means costumes, costumes and more costumes! Look out for details on our annual HALLOWEEN BASH taking place next Saturday (10/28)!
TONIGHT: "4 for 4" Fridays ($4.00, ALL beers, mixed well drinks and house wines for 4 hours, beginning at 4pm).

it was indeed a great game. one thing i don't understand is why didn't Willie Randolph tell Floyd (or some other pinch hitter) to bunt when they had men on first and second w/no outs. really made no sense to me.

Or why even have Cliff (the Gimp)Floyd there in the first place. I would have even put in Julio ("I'm really 37") Franco in before that Gimp...
I'm just sayin'....
I know...
It was a great game...little dissapointed but you're right, they shouldn't feel ashamed.
