SENSITIVITY TRAINING 101....

It's become apparent to me that some people are a bit sensitive to what being written on "the blog"; Especially when it applies to them. It's also interesting to me that when an observation is being made about someone else or their actions that happens to invoke humor or comments, then it's okay to laugh about it.... so as long as it's not them that's being "spotlighted". Well, it doesn't work like that. Don't shoot the messenger if you happen to do something notable that others happen to see; The messenger didn't force your actions in the bar. If you happen to do something of note, then chances are I'm going to talk about it. If you notice at the top of the page, I state very clearly the following:

"Follow the inner workings and daily interactions of a pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here..."

I don't think I am malicious in the things I talk about; I simply write about my observations. If you happen to do something that caused embarrassment to yourself, then that's on you. If anything, I find myself leaving out a LOT of things, to keep from embarrassing someone, or as they say "blowing up one's spot".

So, if someone feels that I've written something about them that caused them embarrassment, then seek me out and we can talk about it. I have no problems with owning up to my writing. But don't get upset with me because of your actions/behavior. What you choose to do or how to act in public is on you.

NATHAN STRAUSS HOUSES- PROJECTS OR NOT?

The good thing about a slow night (which was the case on Tuesday) is that you can actually hold conversations with people without always having to stop every few minutes to check I.D. or to tend to other distractions. I found myself engaged in a couple of rather cool and engrossing conversations over the course of the evening with a couple of the regulars, SILENT BOB and JON CUSACK. Different times of the night, mind you, but equally as stimulating. Normally I find myself interacting with the two in group situations, but in this case, it was nice to have that "one-on-one" with them; I learned a lot about what makes each one tick. Enlightening in some respects, good stuff nevertheless. I rather enjoyed it- not sure if they felt the same way.

Towards the end of a rather slow evening, the staff and I were closing up the bar when the topic of conversation veered toward where we go for haircuts. I mentioned that I usually go to some gypsy place on 2nd Avenue, near 27th Street; I mentioned that it was near the "projects". We then find ourselves getting into a huge debate about the "projects" in question. My staffmates tried to argue that there were no "projects" in that area and that I was confusing the place with Stuyvesant Town, a "housing community" (better known as "projects" for middle class white folks); I was adamant that they were wrong, that there was a housing project right smack dab in the middle of Kips Bay, surrounded by brownstones. At this point, we're walking out the door, locking up for the night.

I suddenly had the bright idea to have all four of us (P-DIDDY, FIREMARSHALL ED, JOEY CRACK and myself) take a ride to the "project" and see for ourselves. We were laughing about it the whole way there, but I was determined to prove my point. We get to the appointed area and sure enough, if you drive up 27th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenue), there it stands: NATHAN STRAUSS HOUSES. Granted, it isn't a sprawling complex like you find in Brooklyn or the Bronx, but it IS a housing "project" nevertheless. Of course, the boys didn't want to give me my due- trying to call it everything from "Assisted Living" to "Stuy-Town"; everything but what it really is- the projects!

I'll take a photo of it and let you decide for yourselves.
