WAY TO GO MARTY!
MARTIN SCORSESE finally won his Oscar, after many years of trying (his sixth attempt, to be exact). I have to admit, I was rooting for the old guy myself; He's directed so many classic films over the years (Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Gangs of New York, Raging Bull, just to name a few), yet he was always the "best man", instead of the groom. And how appropriate it was to have the award handed to him by three of the greatest directors in our lifetime (Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg)? Very cool.
Aside from that, I thought the Oscars were.... just okay. ELLEN DEGENERES, while I wasn't feeling her choice in costumes, er, outfits, she was serviceable as a hostess. There were some funny moments (like when she asked Marty to read a screenplay), but overall, just okay. It sure ran pretty long though, didn't it?
Now that we are beginning a new week, I'm looking forward to a fresh start. Last week was a "blah" one, as far as excitement goes- which is par for the course for February. The Sunday Brew Crew has pretty much disbanded for the season, drifting off to their regular lives. There's not too much excitement as far as sporting events go this time of year, so between now and Championship Week (next week), I don't expect too much to happen; which is like I said before, par for the course.
In the meantime, we keep keepin' on.

Swanny,
The Departed was GARBAGE. He doesn't win Best Director for three of the greatest films ever made (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas) but he wins for this steaming turd of a film? He won this for being around so long and not having won it before. Also, he is starting to look like a cross between George Whipple and Groucho Marx.
Your pal,
Mr. T.
My sense is that it was a goodwill gesture for all of the past snubs.
Didn't care really who won, I didn't even watch it. But then again I haven't seen any of the films that were up for the award. God I need a life.
