HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY.... I guess.

February 14th. Snow's falling in the city, finally. But that's not what's on most people's minds today. For today is Valentine's Day, the day for lovers (or believers of love). It's the day where guys run all over the city or surf the net for that perfect gift to prove their love for their significant other. The happiest people on this day are the restaurant owners (who jack up the prices of their "special dinners for lovers"), the florists (who jack up the cost of a dozen roses by about 500%), the chocolatiers (who jack up the prices of their cheezy heart shaped boxes of candy), and of course, the recipient of all of this attention: The girlfriend/wives.

Yes, it is indeed Valentine's Day and love (or in many other cases, lust) is in the air, as evidenced by the display of spit-swapping and lightly hidden petting taking place at the bar throughout the night.

Talk about a day of commercialized crassness. The whole thing to me is a joke- but of course, you already know that. If you can't find a way to show your love for someone on a daily basis- that you have to wait for one specific day out of the year to show that person what you're about; well, I don't know what else to tell ya.

That being said, we are looking out for those single folks who find themselves alone tonight while all of the couples go off fawning all over themselves. It's GIRLS NIGHT OUT, so that will be the focus of the night with $2.00 mixed well drinks (for the ladies) and $4.00 Amstel Light, Blue Moon Ale and Coors Light (for everyone); We will also dole out some of that chocolate and candies and highlight some cheezy 80's one-hit wonder tunes that always seem to come out of the woodwork around this time of year. So join us if you have nothing else going on; better than sitting at home alone, being depressed about your prospects.

Well, I'm keeping this post short as it is my day to open the bar (and probably to shovel the snow). Gotta get my beauty sleep. Look forward to seeing you single folks tonight at the bar. It's BABY GIRL and CINDERELLA MAN behind the stick tonight and it's also CINDERELLA MAN's last night at Third and Long, as he begins a new venture at the YELLOW HOOK BAR and GRILL in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. We'll miss him and wish him the best!

For those of you who are really into the spirit of the day, well dammit, enjoy the day! And for those of you who feel the same way I do, enjoy your day as well!

Good to see someone dislikes Valentine's Day as much as I. And what's up with the "beauty sleep"? Uh, you need some extra primping in the morning or something?
