KARMA IS A LIKE A KNIFE....IT CUTS BOTH WAYS.
Last night was an unusually slow night; no doubt due to the post-Super Bowl "hangover" and the biting cold weather. We welcomed the few brave souls who made the trip to the bar with open arms. So for the few that did make it for Dollar Draft night, I'm sure they had a good time.
Speaking of the Super Bowl, we had a friendly pool (for entertainment purposes only, of course) and one of the Tuesday night regulars hit the big jackpot. Now he's an older guy, from Denver, CO. He always flies into NYC on business each week and always stops by the bar to watch hockey and drink some dollar mugs. A nice enough guy, we always have conversations whenever he comes in.
So he comes in tonight and I congratulate him on being the big winner; He looked surprised. It turns out the old guy didn't even know that he'd won. He wrote down the wrong numbers. So I go and get his "prize" and give it to him. He immediately sticks it into his pocket, downs his beers and soon after, disappears into the night. Not a "Thanks", let alone a customary tip. WTF?
Oh well. Karma's a bitch and it will come back on him ten-fold. It always does.
On another, more pleasant note: A few years ago, GOLDIE and AFRIKA BAMBATTA tried to school me on a show that first made its rounds on HBO called "The Wire". At the time, I couldn't get into it for various reasons, whether it was due to missed episodes or lack of time; In any case, I just never got into it.
Recently, I caught the latest season of "The Wire" (season 4) and I have to say, something about it caught my eye because I found myself riveted by it. Once the season ended, I had to go back to the beginning, to get a sense of how the show started out. Luckily for me, JON CUSACK had Season 1 & 2, while T-BILL hooked me up with Season 3. Each season had about 12-13 one-hour episodes, and I am not kidding when I tell you that I devoured all three seasons in less than one week. That's how addictive it is. I raved about shows in the past ("The Sopranos", "Deadwood", etc.), but I'll be damned if I haven't seen a show as gritty and gripping as "The Wire".
If you haven't had the opportunity to catch "The Wire", do yourself a favor and check it out, whether it be on DVD or on HBO; you won't regret it.
BABY GIRL will be guest-bartending tonight for "Girls Night Out" ($2.00 Mixed Well Drinks for the ladies, $4.00 Amstel Light, Coors Light and Blue Moon Ale for everyone). Swing by and check her out, or ladies, bring your girlfriends and kick back. It's your night.
nuff said.
