FIRST MEMORIES....

The other night I was having a casual conversation with one of the regulars and he posed this question to me: "What is your very first memory?" Shooting him a puzzled look, he asked the question again. He then went on to recall a conversation he had with a group of people and that very same question came up. The question so fascinated him that he has since gone on to ask the same question to others, including myself. When I couldn't give him an answer right away he said that he'd give me time to think about it and come back for an answer later. He's come to me several times since that conversation and I've yet to give him an answer (pretty much because I haven't had the time to think about it).

Well, after much deliberation, I've finally come up with my first memory (laying in bed sick as a dog affords you that much needed time to ponder). It's a faint memory but as I look back on it, a funny one.

I was probably about 4 years old at the time; I remember sitting in front of the black and white TV, fixated on a bunch of guys running into each other (which turns out to be my introduction to football). I remember seeing my mother drinking a red liquid from a glass. Thinking it was fruit juice, I extended my hands and cried out to her for some (kinda like what men do to their wives when they want a beer from the fridge). So my mother takes some of the "juice" and puts it into my special drinking cup and puts it into my hands. Without taking my eyes off the TV, I put the drinking cup into my mouth and take a large sip. Next thing you know, I spit the juice out, all over everyone else that had been sitting there. Everyone starts laughing and I begin to cry.

I find out years later (as this story is retold over and over again) that the "juice" that my mom gave me wasn't fruit juice at all; it was tomato juice.

So there's my first memory. Anyone else have one to share? (Feel free to use the comments section to post your first memory.)

NHL HOCKEY PLAYOFF UPDATE: It looks like the Blueshirts took it on the chin, earning their first playoff loss this season. The Rangers lost to the NHL's best team, Buffalo, 5-2. Next game: Friday night, 7pm.

And finally....

After one interesting, yet tumultuous year, ROSIE O'DONNELL is leaving ABC's "The View". She came on board last summer and while her ultra-liberal views rubbed many the wrong way, she wasn't afraid to speak her mind, often sparking verbal catfights between the hostesses, other celebs such as Donald Trump, Kelly Ripa, Clay Aiken, Rupert Murdoch, and of course, President Bush. As a result of her "lightning rod" personality, "The View" became an interesting watch again. Why am I even talking about this you ask? HELLOOOOOOO! Who doesn't like a good catfight? And with "The View", the possibility of one is always there.

Love her or hate her
, the fact of the matter is that Rosie got people to tune in to see what would happen next. And you don't find people like that every day.

ABC may regret not bringing her back once they see the ratings dip. Controversy = ratings.

TONIGHT: "Lite Nite" Thursdays ($4.00 all LIGHT beers, ALL NIGHT LONG)!
