THANKS HOMELAND SECURITY

Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, apparently one can now look up your driver's license information online. This is pretty scary, I think. Check it out for yourself and tell me what you think.

Last night I took in a movie with a friend; We saw THE NAMESAKE, based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri. The film covers the struggles between first-generation Bengali immigrants to the United States, and their children over the course of a lifetime. A family moves from Calcutta, India to New York, embarking upon a lifelong balancing act to meld into a new world without forgetting the old. Though the parents long for the family and culture that they were raised upon in India, they take great pride in the opportunities their sacrifices have afforded their children. Paradoxically, their son is torn between finding his own unique identity without losing his heritage.

While the film itself is a bit long, I found myself engrossed in it, as did everyone else sitting around me. The movie's lead actor, KAI PENN ("Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle") was surprisingly good in what was mostly a serious role. There are some comedic moments, but overall it was a film that made you reflect on your own family and taking things for granted.

I highly recommend it if you are looking for a laid-back, feel-good movie, or if you are looking to get your culture on. Worth the two hours.

HOCKEY UPDATE: The Hometown teams (RANGERS and ISLANDERS) are both resuming action tonight, this time on home ice. Cheer them on as they are both playing well.

Finally, I want to say a quick "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" and "Congrats" to my brother, REGGIE, for making it into the Cleveland Police Department. Good luck bro!
