Yesterday, the whole country was sent into a state of shock after 32 people were killed in a massacre of epic proportions at Virgina Tech University, in Blacksburg, VA. For reasons unknown, the person responsible for this tragedy chose to disrupt the tranquility of a peaceful campus early in the morning and take the lives of innocent victims before taking his own life. I'm sure everyone is asking the same question: Why? What could drive someone to commit such a heinous act of aggression?
Now I don't have any connections to any of the victims, however, having vast experience living and working on a college campus, I can attest to the close-knit atmosphere that a college campus can foster. When any type of tragedy occurs on a college campus, it is felt immediately and affects everyone. So when something as senseless and sad and tragic as this takes place, it will no doubt affect everyone associated with Virginia Tech, from the students, staff, faculty, family and friends for years to come. And it's a shame. What is this world coming to?
I can only shake my head and send my thoughts and prayers to those victims and their families. They will need our support now and hopefully they will be able to make sense of what transpired.
