GRADUATION DAY

While running errands yesterday I couldn't help but to notice people walking around with caps and gowns of various colors. While this may have been a peculiar sight on most days, it suddenly dawned on me that this was the time of year when most of the local colleges and universities hold their graduations all over the city. With parents beaming, relieved grads, dinners and parties to follow; This time-honored ritual happens every year and I always seem to forget about it until it actually happens.

The city will now face the invasion of college grads looking to stake their claim on the "American Dream" by establishing themselves in the Big Apple. Of course, this is a boom time for real estate agents, job headhunters, furniture stores, etc. as the Big Apple is injected with new blood. The neighborhood gets to see the invasion as well as many grads will choose MURRAY HILL as their residence of choice to establish themselves. That of course means an uptick in business for bars, restaurants, clothing stores, etc. Indeed a happy time of year for everyone. That being said, I want to personally wish each college graduate good luck and much success in their future endeavors. You're gonna need it!

Bring on the graduates!

Last night's edition of "Girls Night Out" was your usual hodge-podge of small groups of women debating about the dating scene; individual women sitting alone reading or working on crossword puzzles; small groups of guys looking to hook up; and the occasional couple with the cheapskate boyfriend looking to cash in on the cheap drinks geared towards the women. That always fascinates me. If you are trying to impress a woman, don't take her to "Girls Night Out" for cheap drinks. Better yet, don't take her to "Girls Night Out" and have HER buy the drinks. Get a clue!

Funny, I won't bat an eyelash if a guy took me to a bar that was having a "Ladies Night", I would think rather that he was smart and clever to think of a way to have a nice night out on a budget. I know I don't drink but still. I won't put that as a negative mark for being cheap. But then again I'm not the typical girl now am I?
