Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

COME HELL OR HIGH WATER!
Last night, Third and Long hosted an evening of live music (for the first time in eons), featuring a local band called "HELL OR HIGH WATER". The band with a large local following played four energy-driven sets of cover tunes that had the place rocking until well after midnight. What was interesting about the fans of the band was that many of them were original patrons of Third and Long when it opened back in 1991. There was also a large contingent of Third and Long's original bar staff in attendance. So seeing all of these former regulars brought me back to fond memories of the infancy of the bar; At the time, it also reminded me of how old I am. Ugh.
Back in the day, we issued "V.I.P. Cards" to patrons that allowed them special privileges such as discount prices on drinks, no line-waiting, etc. This faithful patron still had his card in his wallet years later....
As you can see in the photos, it was a pretty good time. I just tried uploading video for the first time- of course that didn't work. Grrrrr..
WEEKEND HAPPENINGS:
FRIDAY: After-Work Happy Hour (4pm-8pm): All Beers, House Wines and Mixed Drinks, $4.00.
SATURDAY: KICK the KEG Saturdays (12pm-8pm): All Beers on Tap, $2.00, 'til the keg KICKS!
Have a great weekend!

SWANNY are YOU KIDDING ME with the VIP card?
How the hell did you ever let THAT die!
That is awesome, it even looks like the guys name is pressed into it and raised like a real credit card.
TITS!
I just came across a stack of them and laughed to myself. I'd totally forgotten that we used them back in the day until that guy pulled his out of his wallet. I could have sworn I saw dust fly out of the space where he kept it.
priceless.
What ever happened to the bar taking everyone to the race track? Booze Bus and the whole deal...
Saratoga season is coming soon...
remember the "ski trip"?
I don't recall making any plans about a booze bus to the track of any kind (except Dover, which was NAPOLEON's idea);
Ski trip was an idea that was floated about but no one responded to that one.
I will take the fall on the Knick Game day trip that was proposed. We dropped the ball on that one. ;)
I'm always open to suggestions for outings. Let's do something!
SD
I say you have a booze bus trip to Milwaukee.
Milwaukee or Bust baby!
We got more beer here then people and it's cheap!
How was it possible to book a band in such a short notice? Wednesday was "suppose" to be the last day but all of a sudden a mircle happens and by Friday we have a live band.
Makes you think.
Um... hate to burst your bubble but the band was booked weeks ago when we first announced that we were going to close. It was for the "closing party" for family, friends and staff of the bar..
Maybe you should stop "thinking" too much and move on. Let it go.
