OUCH
It looks like my Cleveland Cavaliers will have a tough time of it in the NBA Championships, if TIM DUNCAN has anything to say about it. Mr. DUNCAN showed everyone why he's the best player in the league as he led his San Antonio Spurs to a 85-76 victory over "America's Team" (yes, I said it again) last night in Game 1 of the Best-of-7 series. While the Cavs lost on the road, they showed me signs that they can compete with the Spurs. I still predict that this series will go 6-7 games and we'll see who's the last team standing when the smoke clears.
Speaking of the game, last night brought about a pretty good crowd for the game and for that Thursday night pop before the summer weekend exodus to the Hamptons/Jersey Shore.
In other notable news, congratulations go out to our own STIFFLER, on his big win at Shea Stadium. A few weeks ago, Bud Light held a Home Run Derby promo at the bar. Basically one had to hit as many home runs as he/she could on a Xbox game hooked up to one of the TV's. After some coaxing by yours truly, STIFFLER decided to enter (for shits and giggles) and next thing you know, he wins the bar competition and an opportunity to play for the NYC Home Run Derby championship at Shea Stadium. This time, as one of 32 contestants, he was playing for a spot at the National Home Run Derby Championships being held in San Francisco, during MLB's All-Star Game. And wouldn't you know it? The STIFF MAN wins it all! As a result, he will represent THIRD and LONG and NYC in the National Championship at San Francisco's AT&T Park during the All-Star Game. Good job buddy! Hmmmm... I wonder if he'll need a chaperone for this trip?
BIZARRE MOMENT OF THE NIGHT: You've seen this scene before, i'm sure. Boyfriend and girlfriend gets into a heated argument. Boyfriend treats girlfriend like crap and an innocent bystander steps in to help the girl, only to be rebuffed by the girl. Thankless proposition, right?
Well last night was another one of those situations that was one for the books. Boyfriend and girlfriend get into a heated argument on 3rd Avenue, right in the middle of the street. Both are yelling at each other. Cops are nearby, watching it all go down. Boyfriend then hauls off and pops the girlfriend in the grill. Cops then pounce on the boyfriend and immediately throw the cuffs on him and proceed to arrest him. What does the girlfriend do? She berates the cops for arresting him. Are you kidding me? Her girlfriends are trying to calm her down and explain to her that the cops did the right thing, yet girlfriend is still livid that they are treating her boyfriend like a criminal. D'uh?
It was great to see GOLDIE last night as he was finally able to pry himself away from work to stop in for a cold one. He looks great and seems to be doing well. He misses the BREW CREW but I think he's happy about being away from the rat race that is NYC. He plans on being back for the Sunday Brew Crew's last hurrah, Sunday, June 24.
Once again, on behalf of the staff of Third and Long, I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support during our "last days of business". It's is greatly appreciated, more than you 'll ever know. I haven't heard of any changes of yet in regards to what's happening with our lease, but I will keep you posted with new info as it comes along.
WEEKEND HAPPENINGS: FRIDAY: After-Work Happy Hour (4pm-8pm): All beers, house wines and mixed well drinks, $4.00. Jose Cuervo Promo (9pm). SATURDAY: "Kick the Keg" Saturdays (12-8pm): $2.00 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP! Belmont Stakes, 5pm (yours truly behind the stick!)
Have a great weekend!

Of course the funny part that isn't mentioned is that the bar will have closed it's doors while the Stiff Man is representing.
Good job on getting that done!
Don't look now, but it looks like we have YET another SILENT BOB sighting... You're so predictable. ;)
"Once a prat, always a prat..."
How about the picture? I know that the Stiff Man has a big head, but I can't tell which one is which???
Comment?
How much are the beers after 8:00?
