MEADOWLANDS: the new TV series on SHOWTIME

Just saw the new Showtime TV series, "MEADOWLANDS" tonight. And at first glance, I'm not quite sure what to make of it. The basic premise is simple enough: A family under government witness protection is relocated to a new community, under new aliases. From there, however, it gets really weird, really quick. From the strange relationships that exists within the family, to the community itself, "MEADOWLANDS" contains a lot of twists, turns and kinks that will make you go mad; yet at the same time, it's almost like watching a car wreck in that you can't quite turn away. The fact that it's a British production will drive some folks nuts as well. With all of the frustration that came with the first episode, however, there was enough intrigue for me to give this quirky comedy/drama (or dramedy) another go. Check it out on Sunday nights on SHOWTIME (or anytime on SHOWTIME ON-DEMAND).

It's more than what I can say about JOHN FROM CINCINNATI. For some reason, I haven't found the drive or energy to want to invest this new series. But I guess you can blame David Chase and THE SOPRANOS for that.

Ol' bastard.

Also check out FLIGHT of the CONCHORDS on HBO- another quirky comedy, this time from New Zealand! Funny shit.
