WEEKEND UPDATE
It's Sunday night and I have my THIRD and LONG FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE draft starting up in a few minutes, so now is as good a time as any to update the blog.
It's been a long week and I have to be honest, I haven't felt this wiped out in quite awhile. Summer is coming to an end and it was one hell of a roller-coaster ride. With everything we dealt with at the beginning of the summer (with the impending closing/opening), from getting the bar back up to speed, to staffing issues and putting out little fires here and there, I have to say it's been an interesting summer.
One good thing from all of this is that I've gotten to meet a lot of new people along the way. From tourists to neighbors that I've never really gotten to know, to new people moving into the 'hood, it's always nice to meet cool new folks.
Friday Night was a mellow night as far as summer nights go, but it had its share of moments.
One of the neighborhood regulars came in with this pretty hot blonde chick and the moment they came in the bar, she was all over him like white on rice. She was sporting hot white short-shorts and a gray blouse with a P-L-U-N-G-I-N-G neckline that rivaled the Grand Canyon. I've known this guy for a few years now and this guy ALWAYS pull quality tail, and this night was no exception. They hung out in the bar for a bit before nature took over and she dragged him out of the bar, ready to do what grown folks naturally do after drinks and such.... lucky bastard.
This lovely young lady (who's name I unfortunately misplaced- my bad) shared an interesting story with me on Friday; Turns out she used to live in the neighborhood and came into Third and Long for a drink after a date with some fella. She ended up sharing her first kiss with the fella in our bar (this took place around 2002); Now they are married and living in Florida. Everytime they come back to NYC, they always point out this place as "the place" where the magic happened. How cute!
This chick started coming to the bar a few weeks ago with friends; turns out she's a nanny (or "Au-Pair" for all of you p.c. folks) for a family in Long Island. On her nights off, she likes to come to Manhattan to "dance the night away". And for some reason, she chooses to come to our bar. And when I say she dances, she literally dances the night away. Most of the time it will be her and her friends, but every once in a while, some guy will muster up the courage to dance with her. Funny thing is that most of the guys who take the plunge usually fall under the "geek squad" category, with the rhythm of a peg-legged horse. But that doesn't stop THE GOOD GERMANS (as I'll call them) from shaking what their mommas gave them.
Not quite sure what the hell was going on there, but whatever it was, this guy was determined to slay the dragon. Bless his heart.
Like I said before, the night had its share of moments. And I also got to try out my video blogging skills, which came in handy as there were a lot of strange folks walking around the neighborhood as the night went on.
Saturday was a much longer day as I found out last minute that I had to cover the day shift. The guy scheduled to work called out sick and it was too late to find someone else so that in effect threw a monkey wrench in my whole day. I was supposed to help out a friend with his draft and I had to cancel out due to work and I felt really bad about having to do that. Needless to say, that didn't do well for my mood going into the evening.
As Saturday night began, we were hit with a hilarious group of people who were doing a bar-crawl of sorts; They were playing some sort of Bar-Golf type of game where they had to hit a list of pubs and do certain drinks/shots for strokes, or something like that. All I know is that by the time they reached our place (the last stop), they were feeling no pain whatsoever. And the outfits..... priceless.
This lovely couple were visiting from Toronto, Canada (my second-favorite city in the world) and happened to stumble upon our place while strolling about the neighborhood. Turns out that the chick and the guy weren't dating- he was here visiting his girlfriend and she came along as a third-wheel of sorts. If all third wheels looked like that, I'll ride a tricycle anytime. She was pretty hot... in a cougar/MILF-y sort of way.
Here is the GOOD GERMAN once again, dancing around the bar and being pursued by someone who looked rather close to the MCLOVIN character in SUPERBAD. Funny thing, he danced a lot like him too.
So those interesting moments aside, it was a pretty casual Saturday August night in Murray Hill. Next weekend is Labor Day weekend and it brings about a twinge of sadness for me as it's a reminder that summer is pretty much over and my Sundays off are coming to an end. *sigh*

Hearing about other guys getting the ladies, uh, just brings me down. Thanks for ruining my Monday morning Swandad.
