BLOOD DRIVE TODAY

FOX 5, My9 AND THE NEW YORK BLOOD CENTER

TEAM UP TO STOCK UP!

NEW YORK—In response to a call for action from the New York City Blood Center, WNYW/Fox 5 and WWOR/ My9 have joined forces with the Blood Center to help increase blood donations and awareness at a critical time of low blood supplies throughout the region.

“We need to remind people of how important blood donation is to our community before we are in a crisis,” said Lew Leone, Vice President and General Manager of Fox 5 and My9. “When we learned of how the constant demand for blood causes dangerously low supplies, particularly in the summer, we wanted to do what we could to help.”

Fox 5 and My9 are sponsoring a Blood Drive on

Thursday, August 16th from 7:00 AM-11:00 AM and 3:00 PM- 7:00 PM at
Fox 5, 205 E. 67
th St. between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in New York City
.

The drive is open to the public. Members of the community along with local fire and police precincts are invited to participate.

In addition to the blood drive, Fox 5’s Dr. Sapna Parikh will provide viewers with valuable information in a series of reports to air on Fox 5. Fox 5 and My9 will air public service announcements informing people about blood donation.

Leone added, “This is really an opportunity for media companies to use their influence for the good of the community and help give the gift of life to those in need. Our goal is to continue an ongoing employee-donation program throughout the year.”

Information about the blood drive can be found on myfoxny.com.

Our own MATT LONG was interviewed on Fox 5 to promote awareness/importance of the Blood Drive and it aired on last night's 10 O'Clock news telecast. There will also be a few more blood drives to be scheduled in late August/September, so look out for more details!
