"Shoot Em Up"!!!

ACTION PERSONIFIED!!!

After taking care of the K-Rock FOO FIGHTERS promo at the bar last night, I decided to take in a movie. When I got to the theatre, the only choices I had available was some film called SILK (which I'd never heard of), or SHOOT EM UP (with Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti). So I decided to defer to the latter, since I'd remembered seeing a trailer of the film a few weeks earlier.

Within the first five minutes of the film, there was non-stop shooting and fast-paced action and it never let up through the whole movie. The storyline is ridiculous but the frentic-paced action more than makes up for it. The two main leads (Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti, who's excellent as the bad guy, btw) seem to relish their roles as adversaries, as if they were on vacation from the pressures of having to produce top-notch performances that they are known to do. You could tell that they were having fun with what they had to work with. Add to the mix a very sexy and sultry Monica Bellucci, who plays a hooker with a heart in this film. Now her broken English drives you nuts, but to be quite honest, she's so damn hot in this film that she could be speaking in tongues and you wouldn't care.

As for the storyline itself, like I said before- it's so ludicrous, campy and over-the-top that you don't even care. The main attraction to this film is the action scenes and there's plenty of it to go around. The death count itself you'll need a calculator for. And there's a creepy, yet funny scene involving Giamatti and a dead woman that will leave you shaking your head.

So if you are looking for a movie that has no other redeeming value but a fun, simple escape from reality for a few hours, this movie is for you.
