STABBING IN MURRAY HILL???? WTF?

I was awakened from my slumber this morning by a phone call from NAPOLEON and a text message from SILENT BOB.

"Dude, what are you doing??" screamed NAPOLEON through the phone.

"I WAS asleep before you woke me up" I replied.

"Well, do you know what the hell is going on halfway down your block?" NAPOLEON asked.

"Obviously not, I was sleeping, remember?" I snapped back, obviously annoyed at being awakened.

"Dude, some nutjob was running around with a machete and stabbed some old lady walking a dog! The cops shot him. It's a freakin' zoo down here! NAPOLEON replied.

"What??? I replied, now fully awake.

It turns out that it was indeed a nutjob who went on a rampage in this quiet neighborhood this morning. Check out what NY 1 had to say about it:

Man Captured After Stabbing Two In Rampage Along Second Avenue
October 06, 2007

Two people were stabbed Saturday morning in the Murray Hill section of Manhattan when a knife-wielding man went on a rampage along Second Avenue.

The attacker was shot by an off-duty police officer and is now in custody.

The attack happened just before 11 a.m.

Police say the suspect walked into a business at 33rd Street and Second Avenue and started arguing with customers.

Then he walked north a block to a restaurant, where police say he ran into the kitchen and grabbed at least four knives.

When a worker confronted him, police say the suspect slashed him in the face.

Then, police say, he ran outside and confronted two women standing outside the Gemini Diner at Second Avenue and 35th Street.

He allegedly stabbed one of them, a 67-year-old woman, repeatedly.

An off-duty officer eating at the Gemini Diner ran outside and shot the attacker once.

"When I came out of there, police were wrestling a guy on the corner and a lady was there bleeding," said an eyewitness. "And a guy who tried to help them was walking back and forth with his ear chopped off, and he was like looking for help."

Both victims and the suspect were taken to nearby hospitals.

The woman is believed to be in serious condition at Bellevue.

The conditions of the kitchen worker and the suspect are unknown.

Damn. What is this neighborhood coming to?
