HALLOWEEN AFTERMATH

Last night was Halloween and of course, that brought out the good, the bad and yes, the ugly. The Avenue was teeming with well-wishers making their way to the Halloween Day Parade in the West Village or to various house parties in the neighborhood. The bars themselves didn't get busy until later in the evening, after the parade ended, as I predicted.

There were some creative costumes out there and then there were some duds too. But still, if you are a fan of people watching, you definitely got your money's worth last night. At one point, I was hanging outside the bar with REDSKINS GIRL, just shooting the shit when one guy walked by. He was dressed regular- corduroy twill jacket, button-down shirt, khaki pants, etc. Typical frat-boy attire. He looked kinda glassy-eyed and had what looked like dried blood on the side of his head, trailing down to his neck.

So we're looking at him and wondering.... "Is that real blood?". Seriously, we debated over it for about five minutes while he kinda stood on the corner.... just standing there (she said no, I said yes). After a brief time, the guy walked into the bar and went straight into the bathroom. I watched him and dispatched the doorman to go and check on him. Turns out it was real blood as the guy was looking in the mirror, inspecting the cut before leaving the bar. My guess was that he got into a fight at another bar or something. Very strange indeed.

Overall, the night was okay; not as crazy as Saturday night, but a shitshow nevertheless. Here are some pics from the night:

Hey! It's the D-O-T-W!

Here's something we noticed last night (well actually over the weekend): What is it about Halloween that causes women to let out their "Inner Freaky-Deeky Side"? The majority of the costumes that I saw on women were definitely on the risque side, that's for sure. Not that I"m complaining, mind you. I strongly encourage women to let their "Inner-Freak-Deeky Side" out on a regular basis. It's not good to keep things inside, you know? Whatever.

We now find ourselves in the the month of November. Next project on the docket: the New York City Marathon. Slated to take place this Sunday, this is one of the marquee sporting events of the year. Athletes and their supporters fly in from all over the world to take part and it is truly a unique event. Third and Long gets involved in the event for a variety of reasons; the FDNY has a marathon team that runs in the event every year; This year, our own RUNNING MAN will represent the FDNY (and our bar) in the race. I predict that he will do very well. In his first NYC Marathon, he did so well that he qualified for the prestigious Boston Marathon (at which he shrugged his shoulders and said, "That's cool." Talk about modesty). We've also supported The Achilles Track Club (a group dedicated to encouraging people with all kinds of disabilities to participate in long distance running).

As always, Third and Long hosts a post-race party for the Marathon runners and their supporters, and this year will be no different. So join us this Sunday afternoon (approx. 4pm) as we celebrate the success of the Marathon participants in what should be a grueling race. Drink specials, a DJ and plenty of good time to be had for everyone.

We're kicking off the Marathon hype by hosting a NY Marathon promo TONIGHT from 6-7pm, sponsored by Coors Light. Hope to see you there!
