Last night was one of those increasingly rare Tuesday nights where I found myself working at the bar instead of enjoying a night off. During the course of the evening I found myself enjoying a night of people-watching as there were more than a few interesting characters that made you laugh, scratch your head, or in some extreme cases, both.
At one point during the evening I happened to look outside the window (up 3rd Avenue) and noticed a rather large contingent of police cars gathering in front of the candy store halfway up the block. I didn't think anything of it at first, but then when I looked out the window a half hour later and saw that the cars were still there, I took a walk outside to see if I could see more of what was going on.
Outside the candy store there was about ten policemen, plain clothes detectives and a couple of "big-wigs" standing about; It had all the makings of a crime scene. Turns out, the candy store was held up by a guy armed with a gun. WTF! I don't know if anyone was hurt during the robbery, but apparently this person has been involved in a rash of armed robberies in the neighborhood over the last few weeks. I spoke with one of the cops and he described the suspect as: Tall, Hispanic male wearing a long white t-shirt, bandana and was wearing a ponytail. Great. I only see guys fitting that description about fifty times a day walking up and down the avenue.
So needless to say, I'm concerned. It seems like there are more and more of these "heavy crimes" taking place in our safe, little neighborhood. Do I smell a trend taking place here? In the meantime, folks, please be careful as you're going out and about at night. I think sometimes we tend to let our guards down too easily in a neighborhood such as Murray Hill. It goes to show that crime still happens.

On another note: it was great to see ADSENSE GIRL last night; it was her first appearance at the bar in quite awhile and I have to say, she looks great! It was also great to catch up with a couple of former Dollar Draft regulars, ROY and EMMANUEL; They were fixtures at Third and Long for quite a long time, back in the "glory days" of Dollar Draft Madness!

And then there was the REDSKINS GIRL. She came by with her friend, MS. PH.D. for some beers and girl talk. What started out as a couple of innocent beers turned into a night of debauchery. It also looks like she's made a new friend for life with one of our regulars, whom I'll call THE DENTIST. It's always great to see new friendships develop, heh, heh, heh.....
Shifting gears, can somebody tell me what the hell is going on with the NY KNICKS? First you had the SEXGATE scandal over the summer; now you got players going AWOL during road trips! Can somebody fire the owner? That team has become a complete shitshow.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: "HOCKEY NIGHT IN NY" ($3.00 Molson Canadian Drafts, $3.00 Mixed Well Drinks for ladies, and Buckets of Coors Light-5/$15.00)! RANGERS vs DEVILS, 7pm!
