FOUR SHOPPING DAYS LEFT 'TIL CHRISTMAS....Ah yes.... the clock is ticking on the holiday shopping season and it looks as if a bit of desperation is setting in for some of the large department and electronic stores. You are starting to see big-name stores such as Macy's, pulling out all the stops to pull in those last-minute shoppers, including staying open 24 hours from now until Christmas Eve. Stunts like that was unheard of years ago, but now with the competition for that almighty dollar (or in more recent cases, Euros) being so stiff, all of the big name retailers are doing whatever possible to gain every cent they can.
So what does that mean for you and me? Well, that obviously means great sales for starters. With everyone competing for your hard-earned dough, that clearly puts the consumer in the driver's seat. Go forth and get the most bang for your buck, I always say. However, that also means that the inconvenience factor goes through the roof. Dealing with traffic jams, pedestrian bottlenecking, pickpocket artists, tourists (yes, I dare say it), and the such drives the blood pressure through the roof. And add to the mix the beginning of the exodus out of town as people begin their travel for the LONG Christmas weekend.
A virtual shitshow. Looking forward to it. Yay.
REDSKINS GIRL made her debut as a guest bartender last night. I have to say, aside from a minor glitch here or there, she more that held her own. I didn't hear any glasses breaking; She poured a pretty good pint of beer (though I had to show her how to make a "Black and Tan"). she interacted pretty well with the patrons and I think she developed more than a few groupies along the way. Overall, I think we can give her a hearty "Thumbs Up!".
On another note, just found out that the MANHATTAN CENTER MARKET (located across the street from the bar) has finally decided to take my sandwich idea and list it on their sandwich board. Called the "Third and Long Special", this mouth-watering gem of a sandwich (created by yours truly though I can't understand why they just don't call it "The SwanFather Supreme") contains breaded chicken cutlet, topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, red onion and honey mustard on a roll. Decadent yet delicious. Give it a try.... then hit the gym afterwards.
TONIGHT: BLONDE CHATTERBOX and FRENCHY will hold down the fort behind the bar while serving up $4.00 LIGHT BEERS during the PITTSBURGH STEELERS/ST. LOUIS RAMS matchup airing on the dreaded NFL NETWORK. Once again, if you want to catch this game, you need to have Direct TV to see it as it isn't airing on Time Warner or Cablevision in NYC. Or you can simply join us for all of the action. We are also the home for all things hockey, as we are one of the few places in the area that carries the NHL CENTER ICE package. Catch every game here!
And finally, I want to thank those of you who've surprised me with thoughtful Christmas cards and gifts this week. Certainly wasn't expected but much appreciated nevertheless. I have nothing but love for each and every one of you.
Enjoy the day!
