REASONS TO LOVE NEW YORK

Happened to come across this week's issue of NEW YORK magazine and the main article talks about reasons to love New York right now. I found it fascinating in that it shared various points of view from a cross section of New Yorkers. For example, one point wrote:

"I love New York because you can date five people at once without getting caught"- Neva Alsheik

"I love New York because it is the only city where people actually miss the drug dealers and the crime." - Stephen Wong

"I love the party revelers outside my window smoking cigarettes and drinking bad wine at four in the morning (secretly, I wish I were there with them)." - Susan Petrie-Badertscher

"I love New York because we order pizza from the Italian place from across the street and have our laundry delivered. We take a taxi to the gym. We know exactly what we want out of life and our careers, but can't decide where to eat brunch. We make plans and don't keep any of them. We think a studio for $1500.00 a month is a steal, but get pissed when the coffee guy raises his price 25 cents. We fight with cabbies about their driving skills but we are 35 and never had a driver's license." - Alexis DeSieno

"I love New York because working 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in an entry-level job isn't so bad when you know you can do just about anything you could ever want to do from 9 p.m to 5 a.m." - Jessica April.

"I love New York because the waiters and waitresses are the most beautiful, interesting, creative, stylish, aloof, and driven collection of service providers that can be found anywhere on this planet. They all have a story. They all have a plan. And they all forgot to bring me the fucking mustard!" - Julian Swearengen.

"I love New York because in a city filled with 8 million people, you can still run into your crazy ex-stepmother in a deli in Times Square." -Elizabeth Ozemebhoy

"Because thanks to the grid system, it is almost impossible to get lost north of Houston." -Jen Hsiao

"Because when your boyfriend breaks up with you at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday night, you can always find a bar that is full of hot people with a bartender that will feed you shots and a cute boy that you can make out with." -Kara Cady-Sawyer

As I read some of the comments, that of course, got me to thinking about what I love about New York. For me, the reasons are plenty; I've listed them before. What's more intriguing about New York and what makes me love it even more, is that the reasons change all the time. There's not a week that goes by where I don't discover something new or unique about this place. Whether it be something old like the Flatiron Building, something reinvented like Grand Central Terminal, or simply the people that inhabit this great city, New York City keeps me on my toes and piques my interest on a regular basis.
