Last night we held another "Anti-Valentine's Night" soiree at the bar; this was due to the rather poor turnout from the previous night- poor turnout due, in part, to the torrential rainfall we'd received all day long.
This time the turnout was much better; One of the things that surprised me about last night was the number of women (let alone single women) who hung out at the bar. I had planned on initiating some icebreakers to get the opposite sexes mingling. That proved to be difficult at first because there were at one point, about 10-15 women to about two single guys. What made it even more interesting was the fact that the guys didn't even take advantage of the great odds presented before them. Hmmmm.....
The bar filled up with singles and it stayed pretty busy for most of the night. The vibe was cool, there weren't any pricks chasing out the chicks and most importantly, everyone seemed to have a good time. There were even a few hook-ups taking place, which is usually par for the course during these events.
We even got a visit from a blast from the past, THE GOOD SAMARITAN, who is back and working in Manhattan again. He joined the likes of AFRIKA BAMBATTA, SILENT BOB and his lovely wife, BETTY BOOP, DOUBLE-S, T-BILL, ANGRY BLACK, BIG BLACK, and BABY GIRL for a few cocktails and some reminiscing.
During the course of the night, it was interesting to listen to some of the conversations taking place. Most of them involved relationships, the lack of them or the lack of romance that seems to be taking place with them. I couldn't help but to get the sense that a lot of the women who were there were very cynical or jaded when it came to the whole concept of love. I don't know if it was because they were single and without a significant other; Maybe they were burned by love in the past and they didn't feel it really existed (it being "love"). Who knows? In a way, it was kinda sad to see.
I got an email from one of my readers who shared with me her Valentine's Day plans:
Hey there. This is really goofy, but here goes. We exchanged cards in the aisle at CVS yesterday & then put them back. then we sniffed the roses on the way to check out. We did break down & buy some chocolate, but that's because we're going to the movies this afternoon. An afternoon movie & dinner at our favorite Japanese restaurant is a favorite way to spend any day, so we're just being normal! And no, I'm not waring red. I agree that you show the love everyday & v-day is a joke. Just another day in the life of J&CZ. By the way, I love my life!
Now, call me crazy, but I thinks that's what romance is all about!

Dinner, movie, and no mention of getting busy? If I had to spend that much time with a broad I'd at least need a beej out of it.
