Super Bowl Sunday.... The Aftermath

When we last left off, the NY Giants had just won the Super Bowl and bar patrons were celebrating like it was New Year's Eve.


As the celebration went on, I expected to see more and more people pour into the bar to celebrate with like-minded Giants fans....


However, above the chaos that was taking place in the bar, I couldn't help but to notice that 3rd Avenue was filling up with people. Now on the surface, that is to be expected as folks are out celebrating. But what was different this time around was that people were running in one direction- in the street and not on the sidewalk.





Yes boys and girls, 3rd Avenue had turned into a frenzied party zone. Folks were dancing, singing, screaming, kissing, drinking, in the street- much like what you'd see in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. And as each minute passed, the crowd kept getting bigger. What was amazing about this was that there wasn't a police car to be found..... anywhere. It was surreal.






Let me check that- Surreal is an understatement.


"PEOPLE...REMAIN CALM!"



The cops eventually showed up and after much effort, cleared the street of the partying crowd. Which is fine, except for one thing: The cops never stuck around to make sure everyone dispersed! Are you shitting me? As soon as the cops left the area, the crowd cheered and ran back out onto the street! It was insane! This time it was even crazier than before, as women were perched on the shoulders of guys, flashing breasts at the crowd, toilet paper rolls flying all over the place. I was actually afraid that 3rd Avenue would turn into one of those cities where folks riot and burn cars after winning a world championship of some kind. However, knowing New Yorkers, they are too used to winning to resort to such tactics.

Eventually the cops showed up again and this time, stuck around until the streets were relatively clear, which took what seemed like forever.

I have to say, this night was truly one for the ages......
