TALK ABOUT BACK IN THE DAY....Last week I put out a call to the blog readers to drop off any old board games they were looking to get rid of. Now that football season is over, I wanted to resurrect "Sunday Funday" , complete with board games, crossword and Su-Doku puzzles, etc. Thus far, we've collected a "Happy Hour" drinking board game, a couple of "Coors Light Jenga" games (which is pretty cool, by the way), a set of dominoes, and a few other games.
Yesterday, MR. TANQUERAY brought in a little ditty of a game that immediately brought me back to my youth: A BARREL OF MONKEYS.
It's a simple game really. Each barrel comes with 12-14 plastic monkeys and the simple goal is to link each monkey to one another until you form a full chain, without breaking the chain. Sounds easy enough. Once you begin playing, however, you realize quite quickly that it isn't as easy as it looks or sounds. Next thing you know, you find yourself addicted to trying to: (1) link the monkeys in one shot; (2) trying to do it in the quickest amount of time; (3) ignoring your friends as they taunt you while you're trying to complete the feat. Incorporating it into a drinking game only adds to the fun (and pressure). On a side note: I notice that the monkeys that we have (thanks again, MR. T) are of a neon-lime green color. When I was a kid, the monkeys we had were brown. Do you think that the game manufacturer was trying to go the "P.C." route by changing the color of the monkeys, or am I simply over-analyzing this thing? Hmmm....
Next time you're at the bar, ask to check out Barrel of Monkeys. I guarantee that you will be hooked (excused the pun) within minutes.
