Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

THE END.
Last night was the series finale of THE WIRE, the highly-acclaimed gritty police drama on HBO. As much as I was looking forward to catching the last episode of this uniquely fantastic series, at the same time, I didn't want to see it because I knew there wouldn't be anymore to follow.
Without giving away tidbits on what took place, I can honestly say that while it wasn't the best series finale I've ever seen (though I'll have to watch it a couple more times as I've done with all of the episodes this season), I can honestly say that I am satisfied with the way most of the loose ends were tied up. Some outcomes were more predictable than others; some situations were a bit "far-fetched" for my tastes. However, the overall work of the series finale made me both smile and teary-eyed. Like I said before- I will have to give it a couple more viewings before I can give a full report on it- but the preliminary grade I give it would probably be a "B".
One thing you can count on for sure: THE WIRE was one hell of a series and it will certainly be missed.
NEWSFLASH: In honor of March Madness and St. Patrick's Day, THIRD and LONG will be featuring limited edition BUD LIGHT SHAMROCK ALUMINIUM BOTTLES. These bottles are 16oz (as opposed to the usual 12oz bottles) and are shrink-wrapped with a beautiful shamrock green outer layer. We are one of a select few bars in the area that will be carrying these limited edition bottles and they will be available to the public starting this Wednesday, just in time for the BIG EAST TOURNAMENT. Make sure you check it out! (supplies are and will be limited).
Speaking of March Madness, things kick into high gear this week as NCAA Championship Week revs up with all eyes looking towards the "Big Dance", which begins next Thursday. You can catch all of the tournaments as they kick in, with all of the major conferences set to tip-off this Wednesday (Big East, ACC, Big-10, Big-12, Pac-10, just to name a few). This is the time of year that you've been waiting for! And look out for our schedule of fun events leading up to the tipoff of March Madness; that includes St. Patrick's Day, the Elephant Parade and a host of other fun events.
On another note- we got a surprise visit over the weekend from MATT LONG, who's been away undertaking some intense physical therapy in sunny Arizona. He was in town to check in on his new nephew, CHARLES MICHAEL, and stopped by to say hi and to check up on things at the bar. I have to say that he looked great and that the physical therapy seems to be producing some positive results so far. It was great to see him again.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Man, it's the FUNKADELIC-SKUNKADELIC!" (one of our regulars overheard chiming in on the quality of "hemp" they came across recently).
DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS tonight ($1.00 Bud/Coors Light/Bud Light MUGS, all night long)!
More Updates to come.
