CRAP.

So today is the "big election" involving the presidential candidates; The states being highlighted are TEXAS, OHIO, VERMONT and RHODE ISLAND. Why am I even bringing this up you ask? Because today I did a jackass move. I actually tried to vote today. With the media onslaught going on over Hillary Clinton's last stand and the powerful Obama movement, I woke up this morning making it a point to do my civic duty.

I went to the post office to post some bills. I walked to the bank to take care of some banking. On the way back to the bar, I made it a point to stop by the local elementary school so that I can perform my civic duty and vote. When I arrived at the school, I noticed that there were no flags flying, or voter captains stationed anywhere. I walked into the school and was immediately stopped by a security guard.

"Can I help you?" the guard bellowed.

"Um, I'm here to vote" I said, feeling a bit confused and slightly threatened.

" 'Cuse me?" the guard asked, looking as confused as I felt.

"I am here to vote for the primary" I said, starting to get annoyed.

"There ain't no elections here, son. You missed it." The guard said.

"No I didn't- today's the big primary- Hillary, Obama, McCain..." I said.

"Um, son, those elections are in Texas and Ohio. New York voted already". Then the guard started laughing.

At that point I felt my face getting red. He was right. We voted already and I guess in my exhausted mental state, I just assumed that today was election day here. Boy did I feel like an ass.

Last night was one of those rare nights off, so I treated myself to a movie. I had a chance to check out either SEMI-PRO (with Will Ferrell), ATONEMENT (with Keira Knightley..... um, not.), JUNO (which I already saw), or CHARLIE BARTLETT.

I decided to go with CHARLIE BARTLETT.

I remember seeing the previews of this film a few months back and making a mental note to myself that this movie looked like it had some potential. It turned out to be one of those tried and true formula teen-angst movies about the need to be popular, self-discovery, etc. Lot of likable characters (including the lead) and an interesting storyline; Unlike most teen films, however, CHARLIE BARTLETT is actually watchable and enjoyable from both a teen's point of view as well as an adult's point of view. Underrated, but definitely worth a look.

So did you hear the news? BRETT ("I'm not ready for Social Security") FARVE officially announced his retirement today, after about 30 seasons in the NFL.

Now, I was a big FARVE fan from back in his early Atlanta Falcons days. He was always one of those gritty, tough guys that you would love to have on your team. However, the last few years, our buddy was starting to grow long in the tooth; Last season notwithstanding, he was a bit past the born-on date, if you know what I mean. I think he should have hung up his cleats a few years ago, but for some reason, his ego wouldn't let him. And I think in the big picture scheme of things, he actually hurt his team instead of helping them. Because of his ego, the team couldn't plan for the future and make necessary moves because they never knew from one year or the next whether or not he was coming back. And the team was "too loyal" to simply cut him loose and move on. Whatever.

The important thing is that he's finally moving on within his own terms and the Green Bay Packers can finally move to the next chapter with their star-in-the-making, Aaron Rodgers. Happy Trails......

SWANDAD'S BEEF OF THE WEEK

Just happened to be scrolling through the channels and came across 70's pop star MICHAEL MC DONALD (formerly of the DOOBIE BROTHERS), performing on "Regis and Kelly". What really caught my attention was the song he was doing. MICHAEL MC DONALD was promoting his new CD, which were filled with Motown cover hits. Okay, that's cool. Show homage to the greats of yesteryear. But to cover LOVE, T.K.O. by TEDDY PENDERGRASS???? This is akin to blasphemy.

Now anyone who knows anything about TEDDY PENDERGRASS, knows that he was the "King of Butt Naked And Thang's Love Tracks". If you were any kind of stud or mack daddy with any game whatsoever, you had TEDDY PENDERGRASS somewhere on your playlist. His voice alone could undress a woman. That's how good his voice and his music was.

So to hear MICHAEL MC DONALD, the king of 70's vanilla pop, covering LOVE, T.K.O....., well it made me sick to my stomach. There are some things you just don't do. You don't ask MR. CHIPS to step in and re-create Michael Jordan's dunk from the foul line. There are some things that you simply leave alone. Damn.

I was going to say that we're covering the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE matches at the bar (A.C. MILAN/ ARSENAL and BARCELONA vs CELTIC) at 2:30pm, but to be quite honest with you, it's taken me so long to post what I have, that by the time this thing finally gets posted, it will be half-time. (NOTE TO SELF: never try to write a blog post in the bar. It will never get done).

DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS continues tonight ($1.00 Bud/Bud Light mugs ALL NIGHT LONG)!

More later. I promise.

Uh, hey buddy, did you watch any Packer's games this year? My boy was back! Brett Farve was the Green Bay Packers. When he got hurt in week 13 everyone at my bar went silent. Sure, Aaron Rogers filled in ok in a losing effort against Dallas but he ain't no starting quarterback. Hell, he broke a bone in his foot during that second half of the game, how's he supposed to survive a whole season?

Instead of watching the games and drinking beer I'll have to be drinking beer in order to watch the games. They'll be bad next year.
