DOWN THE WIRE.....
Last night the the bar was abuzz with anxious baseball fans of both NY teams, the Yankees and the Mets. Met fans were feeling good about themselves after a stellar performance by their high-ticket free agent signing, JOHAN SANTANA; Yankee fans, on the other hand, were just excited to get their season started, since they were rained out the day before.
Among the many rabid baseball fans, a small group of die-hard Washington Capitals fans were looking to see their team play. After searching around a bit, I was able to accommodate them by putting their game on one of the TV's. They were very excited about seeing their game and then it dawned on me: This is the last week of the regular season for the NHL. The Caps are on the verge of getting into the playoffs for the first time since Noah sailed his ark, so that would explain this group's anxiousness. Throughout the course of the evening a few other rabid hockey fans trickled in, looking to see their team play. That got me to thinking- Starting next week when the playoffs begin, we will finally get to see some real exciting competition and the hardcore fans will come out of the woodwork. The local teams (NY Rangers/NJ Devils) are all but assured of getting in, which is always good for business. But for me, what I enjoy most is watching the fans of all the other teams, rooting for their team. I'm looking forward to it.
As it turns out, the Yankees did win their home opener, to the delight of Yankee fans, while the Mets experienced a bit of a scare when one of their stars, PEDRO MARTINEZ had to leave the game with an apparent hamstring injury. Then on top of that, they ended up losing to the lowly Florida Marlins.
Speaking of the Marlins, their owner is so cheap..... that the team's total salary (21.8 million) is less than ALEX RODRIGUEZ (28 million), of the NY Yankees. Go figure.
DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS was pretty steady last night; not as hectic as your typical Tuesday night, but pretty steady nevertheless. One thing I have to say, however, is that there were a ton of pretty nice looking women. Not sure what that was about, but I'll sign off on that anytime of the week. Maybe they knew that the bar was GOATWEED-free for a change.
TONIGHT: HOCKEY NIGHT in NEW YORK, with $3.00 Molson Canadian drafts, $3.00 Mixed Well Drinks (for ladies only), and Coors Light Buckets (5/$15.00), all night long! I also have a new bartender working tonight; her name is GISELLE. Swing by and say hello!
*ONE LAST NOTE- Just wanted to thank you guys for being good sports about my practical joke yesterday. I meant what I said, however, about my total appreciation for you, the patrons of the bar. You mean more to me than you'll ever know.
More to come!
Nuff Said
