SPRINGTIME REMINDER....

Yesterday I covered for FIRE MARSHALL ED (who normally works Monday nights) and based on some of the "clientele" I encountered, it suddenly dawned on me that this is the time of year that the kids are out of school for the summer; which also means that it's the INVASION OF THE INTERNS.

Now I'm not saying that there are anything wrong with dealing with interns, mind you. It's just that when you are dealing with interns and young college students home for the first or second time, you come across a unique set of circumstances. For starters, from a bartender's point of view, you find that many of them are cheap. I guess that's understandable given the fact that many internships are unpaid ones, so as an intern, you are dealing with fixed budgets, so to speak. But if you are planning on spending an evening at a bar where dollar drafts are the focus of your night, don't go bellying up to the bar and trying to impress your friends by ordering ten mugs at a clip...... and not leave a tip. That's just bush league. And we saw plenty of that last night. Ugh.

You'll also find that with many of the younger college students/interns, comes this pretentious attitude that makes you want to give them a mush to the face. So you're working at JP Morgan/Chase for the summer, big deal. Leave the snotty behavior at the door. Everyone's there to let their hair down and have fun- don't be a twat. Show a little respect to your fellow drinker.

This is also the time of year where the fake ID's really begin to pop up. Kids, take note: If I'm working the door and you approach me with a fake ID and I call you on it, save some face and simply walk away. Don't give me attitude about it; Don't try to come down on me as if I don't know what I'm talking about. I've seen more than enough fakes in my day to spot one automatically. Chances are, if you try to challenge me about your fake-ass $75.00 bootleg license, then I'm going to blow up your spot in front of everyone. And we don't want that, do we? So, save yourself the trouble and embarrassment and go someplace else.

Last night brought back all of those memories of intern hell past, yet I couldn't help but to chuckle a bit.
