THE RETURN OF THE INTERNS....

Yes, ladies and gentlemen: The interns are back.

Last night's edition of DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS brought about the usual pack of interns. They are pretty easy to spot: baby-faced young adults, usually dressed in their first business suit or dress. Either very nervous about getting in or overly anxious about spending quality dollars on mug night. And they tend to travel in packs of say six to ten deep.

More often than not they are somewhat amusing to look at (if not annoying), because you can tell pretty much right away that this is a new experience for most of them, drinking in a grown folk's establishment. They don't quite know how to order more than one drink at a time, or they mispronounce "Smithwick's" or "Hoegaarden". They tend to go to the restrooms in groups of two or three because it's the cool thing to do. And if a guy or girl sees someone they like, they will go over to that person, not with a wingman, mind you, but with a fleet of wingers at their disposal. Pretty funny stuff.

So last night was a combination of everything above and it was okay, for the most part. There was a nice contingent of hotties, hanging out in packs on one side of the bar. Of course, on the other side of the bar you found the male interns, milling about, trying to muster up the liquid courage to go over and make the play for the hotties. Watching this time honored mating ritual reminds me so much of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, that it makes me laugh. If for nothing else, there's enough material there to film a documentary, that's for sure.

One more way knowing how to spot an intern: That's easy- they are usually the baby face individual who doesn't leave a tip most of the time. Interns give the British a run for their money in the tipping department.

Last night's interns were pretty well-behaved, aside from the usual hijinx that comes with experiencing Dollar Draft Madness for the first time. I expect to see more and more interns making their way into the bar over the next few weeks and while it's always nice to see new faces..... Whatever.

See you later.
