AFTERMATH: 4TH OF JULY

Now that the Nation's birthday has come and gone, we have the rest of the weekend to wind down and get back to normal. The Fourth of July turned out to be a good night for the bar; not as good as I would have liked, but then again, some things are out of your control.

The main reason for the slightly off number of patrons had a lot to do with the fact that the Macy's Fireworks Display that takes place on the East River was moved. Don't get me wrong, the fireworks still took place on the river; However, the bulk of the fireworks was moved south towards downtown Manhattan. That, in effect, took away a lot of our foot traffic and it was noticeable on the Avenue. Fellow merchants complained openly about the move. We simply decided that it wasn't worth worrying about. It was out of our control, so we'll deal with the cards that was dealt to us.

Alas, after the fireworks ended, we did get a nice hit and it sustained itself for most of the night. There were a good number of tourists in the mix, plenty of drunk people who probably had been partying all day long at bbq's and parties. So dealing with that was an adventure in itself. But all told, it was a good night with minimal problems. Even the scattering of rain didn't dampen the spirits of the party animals.

Bar's open at 4pm today and closed tomorrow for the holiday weekend. Looking forward for the brief respite.
