A POWERFUL DISPLAY

During last night's MLB Home Run Derby, Texas Ranger JOSH HAMILTON became the star of the show and an instant media darling after he put forth a hitting clinic that was one for the ages. His story was one that movies are made from: Promising rookie who falls in with a bad crowd; gets caught up in drug/alcohol addiction which derails his promising baseball career. Reaches rock bottom before getting a second chance at life and a career and ultimately makes his way back to the "big leagues", before making the appearance of a lifetime on national TV.

You couldn't write a better script for this guy, the one with the flashing smile and the "aw shucks" personality that middle America gushes over. And when he set a record for the number of home runs hit in the first round, his ticket to stardom was essentially written. Although he ultimately lost in the finals to Minnesota's JUSTIN MORNEAU, it was clearly obvious that JOSH HAMILTON was the big winner in last night's HR derby.

Speaking of which, the HR Derby helped propel the bar to another good night as the patrons seemed to be into the drama that unfolded during the competition. Add to the mix a couple of birthdays and the after-effects of the Derby with fans returning from the event and it was a very good night. We're expecting more of the same tonight with the actual All-Star Game taking place at Yankee Stadium.
