Yesterday was the first Sunday of the NFL and the diehards were out in full force. When I arrived to set up at around 11am, there was someone already waiting to get in; by 11:30am, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and SILENT BOB were found climbing through the window in a bid to be the first official customers of the '08-09 season.
One by one, the diehard football fans trickled into the bar; some there for the first time since we re-opened, others, just happy to be back; not only to catch some REAL football action, but also to reaquaint themselves with friends they hadn't seen since last Spring. So in a lot of ways it was a mini-reunion.
By 12:30pm, the place was teeming with excitement; by 1pm kickoff, it was AWWWN! Everyone was excited about the games and cheering for their favorite teams. Of course, there were the usual hi-jinks taking place. We actually had to boot someone out for being a drunken idiot- at 1:20pm!!!
I guess he was more excited about kickoff than any of us. In any case, the afternoon was totally busy; The SUNDAY BREW CREW were in full effect, loud, obnoxious and funny as hell. Poor BADGER CHICK. As with any new female bartender who works with me the first weekend of Football season, they have to face the wrath of the BREW CREW. It's almost an initiation of sorts. If you can handle what these folks can throw at you on any given Sunday, then you can pretty much handle anything and deserve to work on a BREW CREW SUNDAY.
The day itself was a monumental success and everyone there somehow ended up pretty shitfaced and more for the wear. Lot of funny moments, as usual. We even got our yearly visit from former resident BREW CREW member, GOLDIE, up for the weekend from D.C.
As always, pics describes the day best:
Late in the evening, a couple of guys from VENICE, ITALY stopped in for a drink after a walking tour of the city. We began talking and found that the two had a lot of interesting insights on things related to their travels, and traveling itself. They were pretty cool guys and I think we'll see them again before they depart our fair city.....
THIRD and LONG welcomes DIAGO and MATTIA, from VENICE, ITALY.
All told, it was a great day!
TONIGHT: NFL MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL DOUBLE-HEADER! GREEN BAY vs MINNESOTA (7pm), OAKLAND vs DENVER (10pm).
MUG NIGHT MADNESS: $2.00 Domestic Draft Mugs, $1.00 Bud/Coors/Bud Light/Coors Light!!!
