BLACK FRIDAY

It's the day after Thanksgiving and while some of us are sleeping off the turkey-fest of the day, many of you have been up since sunrise doing what used to be the unthinkable: SHOPPING.

Yes, it's BLACK FRIDAY, the unofficial start to the Christmas Holiday shopping season, and the busiest shopping day of the year. Many stores rack up 10% of their yearly sales on this one day. With the economy in shambles, many stores have slashed prices dramatically to lure shoppers into their stores. In the past it wasn't surprising to see stores open as early as 7am to get the jump on sales. This year, some stores were open as early as 5am to deal with the waiting crowds.

A few years ago, I tried to take advantage of the huge sales discounts at Macy's, showing up at 7am only to be met by crowds of hundreds of frantic shoppers and almost getting trampled in the process. Needless to say I won't do that again. Speaking of trampled, check out this STORY. Ouch.

That being said, feeling under the weather has shuttered the shopping spirit for me, so I am perfectly fine with kicking back and watching everyone else beat each other down for that last plasma TV.

MOVEMBER UPDATE

We're wrapping up our month-long fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Research this weekend and I want to take the time to thank everyone who helped us raise $1, 135.00 up to this point. While Third and Long is mostly about having fun, we also like to do our part from time to time for a good cause and Movember was one of those causes worth helping out. We're open today, business as usual. Power Happy Hour begins early today, to accomodate the hardcore shoppers, with $4.00 Drafts and Mixed Well Drinks until 10pm!
