I just found out today that another one of our local businesses has bitten the dust, due to the failing economy. This one hurts me personally as it was one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Yes, CREPE-MANIA, the local crepe shop is closing its doors tomorrow after five years in business. I'm shocked and saddened by this because it had great coffee and a very friendly staff. As I ordered my coffee and received the bad news from the staff, I could see tears welling up in the counterman's eyes as he shared his disappointment over the turn of events. What a shame. Not only do we lose yet another small business on 3rd Avenue, the ever-increasing number of empty storefronts on the strip causes even more concern. At this rate, Murray Hill may become a wasteland of empty storefronts and burned down laundromats....
*sigh*

Maybe things are not getting bad so much as they're coming back to real levels. A crepe shop in Murray Hill? Did anybody really think this place was going to last the long haul? I think the next victims of reality's return will be the perpetually empty the sushi place/bar across the street and that ice cream place on the corner of 34th.
Perhaps, but five years is a long run for any business in the Hill. And in any case, you still hate to see a small business go under, especially when the owners are nice people. And they did have great coffee! As for the sushi place.... I'm convinced it's a front for something else, cause there's NEVER anyone in there. I'm just sayin'...
