Last night's edition of PUB TRIVIA was more spirited than usual because it would be the last one hosted by OPIE CUNNINGHAM, as he's moving on to bigger and better things on the great continent of
Australia next week. So he showed off some extra energy on the microphone along with M.C., his scorekeeper. Teams were really into the competition, some more so than others. So much so that they resorted to cheating with IPhones and Blackberry gadgets, a Pub Trivia no-no. (see above).Now I know that folks sometimes get caught up in the spirit of competition and may resort to doing things to give them that "extra" edge in the quest to win the prestigious "Trivia Cup", but really? IPhones? Blackberries? C'mon people, where's your pride? Can you honestly look at yourselves with pride knowing that you won trivia with the use of an IPhone? Tsk, tsk, tsk....
Now I don't want to turn this into a BALCO investigation or anything because it's only trivia, however, I have to speak up on behalf of those trivia fans who come to play every week and play with honesty and integrity. It's not fair to them and it takes the fun out of playing if they see some other team flailing their thumbs away on their blackberries to gain an unfair advantage. So beginning with next week's edition of Pub Trivia, we will take on a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding IPhones/Blackberries. If you are seen using one during the competition, your team will be disqualified. No questions asked. The point of Pub Trivia is to have some good natured fun and the spirit of the competition and fun gets taken away when another team cheats (Damn, I sound like Bob Costas).

Starting next week, we will take the winning team from that week's trivia competition and enter them in our "Tournament of Champions", in April 2009, a night set aside for past weekly champions, with even better prizes up for grabs. So brush up on your pop trivia knowledge, as we up the ante!
TONIGHT: "Bucket O'Lights" featuring $15.00 buckets of Miller Lite, Michelob Light or Coors Light bottles (5pm-10pm).

Unfortunate this is needed, but for some of us regulars, it is really appreciated. Its incredibly frustrating to lose to an iphone.
This tournament of champions is an awesome idea though.
