THE PERFECT STORM....

Yesterday's blast of winter served as a wake-up call that while spring was quickly approaching, we still have to respect "The Hawk" and the power it possesses. The snowstorm was strong enough that NYC closed its public schools for the first time in five years. FIVE YEARS! While NYC tends to be overdramatic when it comes to snow, it NEVER closes its public schools. So for this to happen made big news locally. The streets were relatively empty as many folks chose to stay home instead of braving the elements and going to work. Even with all of that, there were still a nice group of diehard faithful who braved the elements to enjoy "Recession Mondays" at the bar, and they were rewarded with $2.00 Domestic Draft mugs and $1.00 Bud/Bud Lights for their efforts.

That being said, as much as I make light of the panic sessions that our fair city gets into whenever a threat of a snowstorm happens, I have to tip my hat to NYC for its snow-removal efficiency. They really do a pretty good job of clearing the streets within 24 hours of any major snowfall (at least the main streets anyways). So while it's still cold as hell outside, at least you can get around now. NYC should be back to normal today after the "Perfect Storm".

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK KICKS OFF

The march towards March Madness (i.e. the NCAA Tournament) begins today when some of the smaller basketball conferences kick off their tournaments. That means between now and the end of March, we'll be inundated with tons of college basketball games, insights, stories, photos, etc. Strap yourselves in as this year's Big Dance is as wide-open as I've seen it in years. No clear cut favorite from what I can see. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Cinderella story or two this year. By the way, the BIG EAST tournament actually kicks off next Tuesday (as opposed to the normal Wednesday start) to accommodate the participation of all 16 teams.

RARE PREMIERSHIP ACTION TODAY:

There's a full slate of EPL action today as it has a rare mid-week lineup of matches in place. We'll be carrying the CHELSEA/PORTSMOUTH match at 2:30pm. Stop by and check it out!

BEER OF THE MONTH

This month's "Beer of the Month" is "The Chocolate Cherry", a black and tan hybrid featuring BROOKLYN DARK CHOCOLATE STOUT and SAM ADAMS CHERRY WHEAT. Wait up, you yelled at me and corrected me when I said March Madness started on March 19th, the first day of the NCAA tournament. And now you say "March Madness (i.e. the NCAA Tournament)." So, what the fuck? Does March Madness officially start when the conference tournaments start or when the Big Dance starts?
