APRIL SHOWERS BRINGS MAY FLOWERS?
It's the end of April and it has been a topsy-turvy month for us, weather-wise. From what I can gather, it wasn't really much of spring so far. As has been the case the past few years, the seasons here in NYC seem to have dwindled down from the usual four (spring, summer, fall, winter) to just two: winter and summer. And it sucks. Because quite frankly, there's nothing like being in New York City in the spring (the real spring); when the flowers and trees start to bloom, the temps are warm and breezy, not sticky and humid and everyone's walking around in comfort, not in a hot mess.
Take a look at this week for example. On Monday and Tuesday the temperatures soared to near 90 degrees and then yesterday, 60 degrees. WTF? Where's the comfort of spring? You don't know what to expect from one day to the next these days. Hopefully we'll rebound in May with real springlike weather so that we can salvage and enjoy the season like it was intended to be.
Last night was the return of Pub Trivia and I have to say that while the crowd was somewhat lighter than normal (as is always the case when we come off of a brief hiatus), it was a pretty fun group of competitors and the introduction of the week's theme ("Mystic River") was pretty cool. Rest assured boys and girls, Pub Trivia will be back in its regular Wednesday slot for the foreseeable future, so I expect a good turnout next week.
Before that, I worked the afternoon shift behind the bar and had an interesting crowd. Many of the patrons were in for the Champions League match between MANCHESTER UNITED and ARSENAL (a true rivalry in English Soccer). Among the fans watching the match, I found myself striking up a conversation with a couple of guys who turned out to be musical stagehands. One guy was on a break from working on singer JOHN LEGEND's tour, while the other guy was on a week's hiatus from working on the JIMMY FALLON show. Both guys shared stories on life as a roadie and I found their stories to be fascinating. I got to understand a lot of what went into their line of work, some of it surprising. It was a pleasure meeting those guys and I think they liked hanging out at the bar as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped by again.
By the way, MANCHESTER UNITED won, 1-0.
Today we will be hosting a tasting promotion for LEINENKUGEL'S SUNSET WHEAT, a witbier produced by the Leinenkugel Breweing Company, based out of Wisconsin. From what I've been told it's a nice summer beer with hoppy, citrus taste. Stop by and try one out and give us your feedback on it. As always, your feedback is very important to us and it often helps us to make a decision on what to bring in. Promo begins at 7pm!
AND FINALLY:
I just want to thank those readers who've chosen to follow the blog on a daily basis. It feels good to know that I'll have at least seven readers each day. :) Seriously, thanks for the add!
That's it for now. Got errands to run.

Leiney's Sunset Wheat is by far my favorite beer to drink in the summer!! Glad you got it at the bar Curt! xo Miss Wisconsin ;)
Nothing against the Leinenkugel brothers, they're pretty active here in Milwaukee and always show up at charity/fundraising events, but I'd give your patrons a small sample of the Sunset Wheat before serving up a whole 16 ounce glass. You know me, I love my beer, but ordered that at a bar that had double bubble, two for the price of one, but I couldn't force myself to drink the second one. Not their greatest product. Leiney's Red on the other hand... let's just say someone wasn't allowed to drink for 67 days and that was his first choice.
