IT'S OFFICIAL: SPRING IS REALLY HERE!

The last few days of dry weather has given me the confirmation that Spring has finally arrived. After a week of monsoon rains, we were blessed with great sun and warm temp for most of the weekend, especially Mother's Day. I'm at the bar blogging with the windows open and that's another sign that the great weather is upon us, hopefully to stay.

STAR TREK opened up amid great fanfare over the weekend and it did a stellar 72.5 million at the box office. SC predicted 73 million and that's about as close as you're going to get without predicting it on the nose, so she gets a free drink on me. Make sure to look me up next time you're at the bar. I'll hit you readers up for another prediction this week as Tom Hanks' ANGELS and DEMONS opens up this weekend. Leave your predictions in the Comment Box (with your name) and whoever gets the closest to the actual box office total gets a drink on me. DEADLINE: Friday at 12 noon.

Tonight we get to see America's Team, the Cleveland Cavs pull off yet another sweep as they face off against the hapless Atlanta Hawks at 7pm. More importantly, we also have Game 6 of the fiercely-contested Pittsburgh/Washington NHL Playoff series, also at 7pm. That's followed by the Blackhawks/Canucks series at 9:30pm. Pittsburgh and Chicago can clinch their series with a win tonight.

FIRE MARSHALL ED and I just tried out the new McCafe iced coffee drink from McDonalds. THUMBS DOWN. For reals. Too watery and too much mocha sauce. Ack.

TONIGHT: RECESSION MONDAYS, featuring $1.00 Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light mugs and $2.00 all other DOMESTIC drafts, ALL NIGHT LONG!

Star Trek actually made 75.2, not 72.5. Gotta watch out for those weekend estimates!

Yes, but that also included the late Thursday numbers, which was not included in the typical Fri-Sun box office window.

The Thursday numbers are ALWAYS included in the opening weekend numbers. That's why movies get sneaky and open on Wednesday and Thursday to say they have bigger opening numbers.
