WEEKEND RE-CAP
We're reached the end of May and we are fully into summer mode now (even though summer doesn't officially start for about three more weeks), or at least it feels like it. You see more business casual outfits during the weekdays now, and really quiet streets during the day and lots of tourists and the usual B&T crowd on the weekend nights. A strange, unpredictable mix, but one that I like nevertheless.
FRIDAY night was a busy one for me. We had a charity fundraiser on tap for the Happy Hour time frame, followed by a live music set by the duo of DANNY and BRIAN. We've hosted both in the past and they usually come through with a good crowd and once again they did not disappoint.
The surprise of the evening for me was a visit from a childhood friend that I hadn't seen in quite a few years. It turns out that he had been living in Brooklyn the past few years and while I'd heard that he was living in the area, we somehow never got around to re-connecting. So it was a bit of a shock to see him walking through the door, but a pleasant shock as we ended up catching up for hours, over the chaos of live music and dancing patrons. A true highlight of the weekend.
SATURDAY I found myself up earlier than normal, which sucked ass because I felt like I'd just gotten to sleep a mere hours earlier. I, along with some of the staff were signed up to take a certification course for the bar and the course was taking place that day. It was gorgeous outside, which made going to this course that much harder. Who in the hell wants to sit inside a classroom setting on such a beautiful day? But duty called so we sucked it up and went at it. It was only four hours, but still, you get my drift.
After the course, we got back to the bar and while the boys set up for the evening's activities, I retired to my place, spent from a long week. I turned in early but couldn't really sleep because of the hustle and bustle of the street. However, I got the sense that was a pretty good night.
SUNDAY was a day to relax. As beautiful as it was outside, I chose to stay inside and catch up on some paperwork; programming ideas, scheduling, etc. Since I'm opening up on Monday, I figured that today would be a good day to do what I need to do before then. I finally got to catch up on some movies ("There Will Be Blood" and GOAL II: The Dream Continues), and got a good nap in as well.
Overall, it was a pretty good weekend.
On a side note: Happy Trails to PETER ZEZEL, former NHL player who had a long and distinguished career with teams like Philadelphia, St. Louis and Toronto (among other teams) and had one of the coolest names in hockey. He was also well-regarded throughout the league for his off-ice charitable efforts. He passed away last week at the age of 44 of a rare blood disorder.
Nuff Said
